Connected by a plaza, DPlex is a flexible space offering in the heart of Durham. Full Frame Documentary Film Festival utilized DPlex to provide unique, memorable experiences to their attendees.

DPlex stands for the Durham Convention & Arts Complex and is made up of the convention center, Durham Armory, Durham Arts Council, and the The Carolina Theatre of Durham. Full Frame used the convention center for film showings, plaza for concessions, Armory for a reception, and Carolina Theatre for film showings.

Proudly serving Proximity Brewing Company's Hayti Haze, showcased in front of the beautiful Civil Rights Mural by Brenda Miller Holmes 🍺 This Hazy IPA is 1st in a 4 part series of beer honoring the Black History in Durham including Black Wall Street and the small business movement that revitalized East Durham.

During the 1920s to 1950s, the Hayti Business District flourished as a bustling economic hub within the African American community of Durham. Recognized for its entrepreneurial vigor and cultural vibrancy, it marked a significant period of financial growth despite the challenges of segregation and racial inequality.

The Civic Center through the years 📜 The bond for the building passed in 1982, with the developer breaking ground in 1988, completing construction by 1989. This was Phase I of the downtown revitalization project, hoping to bring life and business development back into Durham.

In 2009, the city renamed the Civic Center to Convention Center in the hopes of drawing more events downtown. That same year, the city agreed to put $3 million back into the venue to boost its appeal on a national scale.

The venue's 30th anniversary, and Durham's 150th, was celebrated in 2019. To celebrate, a plaque was installed to honor those who made the center possible like the DDC (downtown development corporation).
