In celebrating Día de los Mu***os this year, my journey to Mexico was yet another chapter in my lifelong love story with the vibrant country of my heritage. Every time I step onto Mexican soil, I make it a point to immerse myself in all that makes it extraordinary—its rich culture, its authentic flavors, and, of course, the unique character of its beautiful pueblos mágicos. These magical villages hold so much history and beauty, each a living testament to Mexico’s past and present.
Mexico is often misrepresented by outsiders who only see headlines or stereotypes. It breaks my heart to hear Mexico’s name associated with only crime and violence, spoken by people who may never have felt the soul of this place. In truth, Mexico is a country of profound history, where every street and plaza carries stories of resilience, creativity, and celebration. It’s this vibrant and proud culture that I’ve dedicated my life to sharing, especially with young people, who can grow to be ambassadors of understanding and connection.
During Día de los Mu***os, I felt deeply connected to this mission. The celebration goes beyond colorful ofrendas, traditional foods, and marigolds—it’s a powerful expression of our roots, a time to honor ancestors, and a reminder of the spiritual threads that bind generations together. Each dish I tasted, every sip of Mexican wine, and every sweet bite of pan de mu**to held layers of tradition, as rich and layered as the Mexican culture itself.
This trip was just a brief glimpse into all that Mexico offers, a chance to soak in the culture that I strive to keep alive and share with others. When I returned, I came back not just with photos or souvenirs, but with renewed purpose to continue this work of storytelling and cultural preservation—ensuring that the beauty of Mexico can shine through, not only for those who visit but for those who have never seen it firsthand.
