Varnum House Leaf-Raking Day
The Varnum House Museum thanks all of the volunteers who came to our autumn Leaf-Raking Volunteer Day! It was a beautiful day and very productive. We had about 20 volunteers who raked and bagged about 100 yard waste bags with leaves.
This saves us a considerable bit of money compared to having a landscaper perform this service. Thank you so much!

This past weekend, the Varnum House hosted an Eagle Scout project for Ravi Vishnu from Troop 1 East Greenwich. Ravi led a group effort to completely refurbish and replant the entire garden bed next to our carriage house with 18th-century, period-accurate perennials (they also cleaned up our rose beds).
In addition to Troop 1's hard work, we appreciate the generous support and donations from Coast of Maine Organic Products, Inc. as well as Wildwood Nurseries, Inc. in East Greenwich and The Farmer's Daughter in South Kingstown.
More thanks go out to the parents and volunteers who helped that day: Greg Martin, Gloria Hsu Oyelese, Mark Petrowicz, Jeff Prisco, Deepak Vishnu, Madhu Vishnu, Chip Bennett, Alison Carcieri-Cassidy, and Scott Cassidy.
Thank you for supporting both the Scouts and the Varnum House Museum.
The Varnum House Museum hosted the entire 4th grade (four classes) at Eldredge Elementary School for tours focusing on the American Revolution and life during the early founding of America.
These tours are a challenge because we have to get each class through the Varnum House in under an hour, but the kids have SO many questions (and really good questions). After each tour at the Varnum House, the classes also walked down the hill and did tours at the Varnum Armory Museum. So, they got a full day of American history education!
We'd like to thank Eldredge Elementary School for reaching out the the Varnum House Museum to arrange these tours. The students were brilliant and we loved having them in the house. You can come back anytime!
