The Annual Women in the Arts Festival (WITA) is a celebration of regional women artists that takes place during the second weekend of November each year in East Lansing, Michigan. The festival features artists, musicians, poets, and other creative arts as a symbol of our commitment to support women in creative pursuits. WITA is a volunteer-run organization with the goal of creating space for creative women to showcase their talents.

Live from the East Lansing Women in the Arts Festival, this rare performance will bring together the moving poetry of the late African American poet and activist June Jordan, the piano and compositional artistry of Adrienne Torf, and the powerful spoken word of Lansing’s own Voices of the Revolution. Special guests Rose Jangmi Cooper and Shelia Burks will add vocal alchemy to the performance. This is the first time that a selection of Jordan and Torf’s collaborative works will be performed in this format — a program honoring June Jordan’s legacy, including performances of the collaborative works along with poems by Jordan and other poets.
Tracks from Jordan and Torf’s Collaboration: Selected Works 1988-2000 written and recorded by Jordan and Torf and released in 2003 will be featured. The poetry performed is for an adult audience. The content includes images of misogyny, racism, violence, and other intersections of oppression.

After four months of rehearsing on Zoom, Lansing-based poetry collective Voices of the Revolution and San Francisco-based composer and pianist Adrienne Torf held their first in-person rehearsal Saturday (Nov. 4) in East Lansing.

Women in the Arts Festival welcomes It's a Breast Thing to the market.
Meet Judy Tegreeny of It's a Breast Thing, a local nonprofit since 2007. It's a Breast Thing supports breast cancer patients with $500 grants in 19 mid-Michigan counties. As an all volunteer organization 95% of our fundraising goes towards grants. Artist Spotlight! Welcome Women in the Arts Festival newcomer Margaret McGraw II!
Margaret describes her passion for working with wood: "Carving wood is something I have always enjoyed but didn’t have time for until I retired a couple of years ago. A majority of my creations are made from wood that otherwise would be thrown out. I also use sawdust, paper, wood chips and leaves to make my pieces. When carving, I concentrate on bringing out the interesting knots and try to highlight there unique path. All my carvings are hand made. I do occasionally use a hand tool but no machines are used. My goal is not to make my pieces perfect but interesting and beautiful."
