Born out of the tornado devastation of last June in Central Massachusetts, a pipes & drums charity concert was put together in six weeks and took place at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield on Sunday, October 16, 2011, hosted by the Melha Shriners Highlander Pipes and Drums. Other participating pipe bands included the Steward Highlanders, the Quaboag Highlanders, the Springfield Kilit
ies,the Worcester Kilties and the Holyoke Caladonians along with other types of musical performances. We were able to donate money to the relief efforts to six different cities and towns in Western Massachusetts. The sense of what we had accomplished that afternoon energized us all to continue on with an annual concert. Each year there will be a new host band who will select a charity close to their heart. This year the Charity Concert will be hosted by The Quaboag Highlanders Pipes & Drums. All proceeds will be going to benefit Rays of Hope, a charity dedicated to breast cancer research and survivor support through the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and we felt it would be most fitting to do our part in the battle to find a cure for a disease that strikes so many families. The concert will again take place at the Eastern States Coliseum, Springfield, Ma on Saturday, October 06, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. So, if you or your band would like to be a part in Piping for a Cure, please mark your calendar for October 6th and contact us ASAP. Harkness
