Join the Peoria Orchid Society at the ICC Landscape and Garden Day event on Saturday, September 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ICC Horticulture Building Grounds in East Peoria. There will be speakers, vendors, snacks, and plants for sale. The Peoria Orchid Society will have terrestrial orchids, companion plants, orchid bark and orchid fertilizer for sale, plus information on growing orchids.

Below is the 2024 Calendar of meetings for the Peoria Orchid Society. Our meetings are held at the Illinois Central College Horticulture Building's classroom on the second Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. Please note the following exceptions: 1) March 2 - Home, Lawn and Garden Day at Central Catholic H.S. in Bloomington, IL, 2) May - No Meeting due to Mother's Day, 3) September 7 - Landscape and Garden Day at the ICC campus.

• 2/11/24, Re-pot remaining ICC orchid/Share Day, Easy meeting…just in case of inclement weather.
• 3/2/24, Home, Lawn and Garden Day, Central Catholic, Bloomington.
• 4/14/24, Arranging Orchids in the Home for Best Growth Results & Display, Windows vs. artificial lights, humidity, spacing, air flow.
• 5/12/24, NO MEETING – Mother’s Day.
• 6/9/24, Fertilizer…What kind should you use, why, and how often.
• 7/14/24, How to increase your orchid collection, A talk on vendors, sales, cuttings, starts…the advantages and pitfalls.
• 8/11/24, Picnic.
• 9/7/24, ICC Landscape and Garden Day.
• 10/13/24, What's New With You/Share Day, Sharing orchids, materials (pots, etc.) and new ideas.
• 11/10/24, Re-potting Orchid Workshop, Review of orchid potting materials, labeling and container types. Members may bring an orchid that needs re-potting.
• 12/8/24, Holiday party.

February 11th, was the first meeting of the Peoria Orchid Society for calendar year 2024. For this meeting we decided to re-pot one of the ICC resident orchids. This was a very large Cattleya, so pot bound we had to break the clay pot to start the re-potting process. We made several divisions of this wonderful plant that will grace the ICC greenhouse with beautiful blooms in the weeks to come. The attached photos show the process and the final result. Many thanks to our members for their muscle and orchid expertise, as well as the ICC Horticulture Department for this opportunity and a wonderful location for our meetings!

Join us for the Peoria Orchid Society's meeting on Sunday, October 8, at 2 p.m., in ICC's horticulture classroom (in the Horticulture building) at the East Peoria campus. This will be our "Share Day," where we share ideas, new growing methods and tools, extra plants and supplies, etc. We also do a "Show and Tell," highlighting our blooming plants. This promises to be a fun meeting.

Thanks to everyone who visited the Peoria Orchid Society booth this past Saturday at the ICC Landscape and Garden Day. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather. Met so many wonderful people and had a great time talking and teaching about orchids and companion plants. Also, thanks to Corinne Brown and her crew of wonderful students for all their assistance with set up and hosting this wonderful, annual event.
