Need some help here from all my past and current brides.

The barn is evenly, “distressed”, on the backside of the barn. The front is a different story.

In the past, when I have asked my previous brides if I should paint the barn or leave it, the majority said leave it distressed.

Thinking I should at least paint the front of the barn because it is not “even“?

Jay and I have been truly blessed to have called this our home for the past 20 years. We purchased the property in 2004 from Leonard and Mary Lou Zabel. 

We had a young family of five children, with all of the financial stresses that went along with raising a family. We both loved older properties with character, and the Zabel Farm definitely fit that bill.

Mary Lou and Leonard were renowned hog farmers worldwide. We had a different vision for the property, which was to evolve over the years.

In order to make 10 acres work for us, we decided to do a “pick your own “strawberry patch”. I also took a job working nights from 4:00 PM until 11:00 PM at the local hospital, where I had previously worked, to help with finances. Jay had to drive 20 minutes every day to
the grain farm for work. YOU DO WHAT IS NEEDED TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

In approximately 2011, we started our venture with Gatherings on the Ridge. It took the whole family helping, extended family, and great contractors to turn a hog barn into a Wedding barn in two years time.

It is now time to start a new season in our life. After much thought and prayer the last two years, and letting go of our dreams here, we have created a new dream/new venue at the Union in Ashland Wisconsin.

We honeymooned there 31 years ago. We have an Airbnb, Boutique, and now on a 1923 Bank building. We are in the process of renovating this large building and will be taking bookings for weddings and events starting August 2025. We will continue call the Driftless region our home, building a home on the grain farm.

Do you see yourself owning a wedding venue in Southwest Wisconsin? Or do you know of someone that would be a
perfect fit?

This property is perfect for a “stay at home mom “with a weekend side, business, or just as a perfect property to raise your family with beef, chickens, and a bountiful garden

Alternatively, it would be a great income producing property with Airbnb rental of the 1905 historic brick house, to be an add-on with event rental of the barn

Although it will be a completely different venue than our current venue at Gatherings, we will give the same care to the wonderful couples that choose to book with us!
