In my happy place today! The client requested a native arrangement. Sedum, oak leaf hydrangea, spice bush, arborvitae, heuchera, and sea oats. I stretched a bit with the clients permission given that nothing is in bloom. Zinnias and celosia are native to North America broadly.

The best part is between designing, we also prepped and planted a new native cutting garden at Hoopsydaisy Farm.

Truly a good day!!

It’s a peaches and cream kind of day 😊

We love the opportunity to truly tailor a design for a customer. In this case, the recipient was visually impaired. Madeline designed the beautiful compote from local and regional flowers. Many are from my garden as well as Pam Keeton’s. Pam, carefully selected flowers for touch and smell like lavender, salvia, and liatris. The end result was a design full of so many interesting details!

Custom / bespoke florals - We are often asked about what is custom - Or what does it mean in our business.

At its core, all of our designs are made to order. We do not have any premade designs in a cooler. We may make up hand tied bouquets during heavy periods - but there is something to be said for the customer interaction when we select the best blooms together.

Similarly, all the blooms in our orders are carefully selected. We keep a limited supply of flowers on hand to meet demand. If a client asks for a specific type of flower or variety, we need to locate or order it if seasonally available. We rarely have two dozen roses ready to go out for example.

We also take great pride in our field grown florals. Every morning, I walk through my garden hand selecting stems for upcoming orders. Thinking through colors, customers and designs. Wanting to pick those personal elements for the designs. And we love to work with other local flower farmers to fill the gap. We are blessed to be surrounded by an amazing farming community. The photo shown is part of this morning’s selection from my garden for a few bouquets - just past spring and not quite into summer florals yet - but wonderful just the same.

So custom - what does it mean to our business? It can mean a lot of different things. Perhaps best summarized as attention to detail, care, and quality.

Summer is upon us! As I was pulling together this arrangement today, I was thinking about how all my cool hardy annuals are coming to an end - My orlaya is now seed heads and much of the nigella is getting there. This is the last week for my snaps until their fall flush and my peach hypericum has bloomed. But as we move into summer, the hydrangea are a gorgeous light blue and I had my first heliopsis bloom. I’m sure zinnias won’t be far behind!
