Sometimes the question comes up: Why go to jams? OR Why take lessons OR just play with other musicians? This is a great video with insight on exactly why it CAN be important, , what "woodshedding" (isolated practice) is really about, etc. I have my own story about how I learned the vocabulary of the music, made big strides forward in all respects, etc. What is yours?
