As part of our ongoing public education and workshop series, Kubb Farm is proud to present:

“An Ebike killed my minivan”
Small electric motor bicycle workshop - Presented by Aaron Ellringer from Kubb Farm

Shift!
December 5
6 to 8pm

This is a presentation of the pros and cons of a variety of commercially available and DIY home built ebikes. Geared towards beginners and the curious, Aaron will describe his experience putting thousands of miles in the saddle of a variety of ebikes over the past year. He will address all of the commonly asked questions and detail how he has used bicycles to transform his life and virtually eliminate driving the family minivan. The workshop will close with an open examination of a variety of ebikes with test rides available as time allows. Aaron is not an expert but rather an experienced user.

Aaron has been an avid cyclist since he taught himself to ride in his parents garage in the late 70’s. A daily commuter, his riding dropped sharply when he moved to a farm south of town. Adding a small motor to his bike got him back in the saddle again and he has logged over 5000 miles of cycling over the past year, many of them with one or two kids along for the ride.

How far can you go?
How fast can you go?
How long does the battery last?
What kind of motor should I get, hub or mid-drive?
Can you ride all year long?
What do you do in the rain?
Are ebikes expensive?
Should I build my own or buy pre-built?
Where can I get one?
Will I get exercise?
What do you do in the winter?

Garlic: Our only cash crop this year. It was a decent growing season with plenty of rain throughout the summer. The rain continued to keep the soil saturated through garlic harvest, though, causing problems for the garlic that needs a balance of wet and dry before picking. Because of this we were unable to wholesale the crop to our usual outlets, and have a lot of premium porcelain on hand to sell.

This is fresh hardneck garlic from our 2019 crop. We have been growing garlic for nearly ten years, starting with organic seed stock with origins going back to Germany and Russia. This porcelain garlic has been grown for high allicin content, medium to spicy and complex flavor, and good storage pro

Thanks to the help from many friends of the farm, we are conducting a seed trial of Asian Cucumbers in the high tunnel going in to the fall. The seeds were provided by UW Madison. Square Roots Farm very generously started the seeds. Friends and family helped transplant and trellis.
