A question I see all too often from couples is...
Is it actually cheaper to DIY my wedding?
And really, it depends.
When it comes to weddings, there’s a lot of pressure for the bride and groom to be as creative and frugal as possible. If left unchecked this beautiful creativity can come at great costs—sometimes financially, if DIY projects don't come out according to plan, and sometimes it costs more in the form of your time. How much time to you really have to take on these projects – a little, some or A LOT?
Here are 4 things to consider before leaping into the world of DIY:
Create a Budget for Your DIY Decor - For many couples, the budget is limited. So you have to watch what you spend. First find out what costs are fixed like your venue, the catering, photography, and what things you do have some flexibility on like flowers, invitations, decor.
Shop Around - Seems like a no-brainer, but it's like shopping around for the best deals on groceries. You might have to shop around at different stores to get the very best prices.
Decide Who Will Set Up - If you've decided to enlist some close friends or family members, be sure to leave them enough time to get ready for the event or see if your venue will allow you to decorate the evening before. If you would like to hire a day of coordinator to set-up and takedown then count that into the budget.
My final piece of advice, make sure to do a practice run of the decor at home and take pictures. This will help guide the person setting up on your wedding day.
