Lots of interesting visitors coming to the museum lately. Be sure to stop in during the day and enjoy the Haunted Museum, School/House, General Store and the Grounds! Then come out on October 14, 15, 21 and 22 and ride the trail when witches and other ghouls come out at dusk.

Newer growers this picture shows how you should be maintaining your main vine from this point to the weigh off any old not productive leaves should be removed down your main vine also. Note how the main almost looks like it is floating. That’s because the dirt has been removed from underneath the vine between the leaf nodes be sure not to damage your roots under the leaf nodes. Lastly 91 percent alcohol or Oxidate should be sprayed on the mains every few days and always check for rot. Sorry to get long winded but there is a lot to tell our younger growers. Fig Preserves
Delicious with buttermilk biscuits, fig preserves were often found on a Southern sideboard. To make fig preserves, slice figs and cook them with sugar, lemon slices, or ginger to make a thick, sweet relish.

The jam, bottled in mason jars sealed with thick lids, made a great holiday gift, or a housewarming gift for new neighbors. And making the preserves allowed everyone to enjoy figs year-round, rather than just during their short season in the South.

Growing up I never was exposed to fig preserves, it was only as an adult that I first came across some in a grocery store and then learned to make them myself. Of all the preserves, fig is right up there at the top for me with blackberry.
