It’s all about intention. The day after Eid, I sent small treats with Soha for her principal and office administrators. Nothing super fancy or expensive. By the end of the day they gave her this card. Soha was beaming from ear to ear as she got off the bus. The $ value or size of the gift doesn’t matter. As I always say the sincerity and intention matters. May we all step out of our bubble and be respectful and inclusive of the celebrations around us.

Stop whatever you’re frazzled with and take a deep breath. It’s ok if the samosas aren’t ready. It’s ok if you don’t have a Ramadan banner. You did the best you could. It’s like a dawat at your place. You’ve laid everything out and the guests are about to arrive. You tried your best. It’s ok if you have one less entree than you had planned or if the baseboards are dusty. Trust me it’s ok. Take a deep breath and get ready to welcome Ramadan with a smile. The doorbell is about to ring. Welcome Ramadan with calm and contentment not confusion and chaos. With longing not fatigue. With peace not panic. May we all make the most of this month in the best possible way. Aameen.

Last Friday of Ramadan thoughts. Link to this Quran that I received as a gift is in my stories. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do Alhamdulillah. Reciting the Quran in Arabic has IMMENSE benefits. However, if a doctor writes you a prescription in German or Chinese and you keep reading that prescription, but don’t know how many pills to take when and for how long, you might not get the healing you need. Similarly if your car breaks down and the manual is in Japanese. Even if you can read the instruction manual cover to cover, you won’t be able to diagnose and fix the problem until you understand it. As non-Arabic speakers, we should try to understand the meaning of the Quran first with a trained teacher and then continue learning for the rest of our lives.

Surprise at the end! I had two friends over for lunch today and made @blendofspice famous NY halal cart, @hungrypaprikas batata harra and @flourandspiceblog flan.
