Owning a flower shop had always been my dream for one day in retirement.
But we bought Floral Excellence with a full plate of 3 kids (4,6, & 8 in 2016), praying it would bring in enough support for our family to help send our children to private Christian education. It’s a funny story how it came to be, and the moral is that sometimes sewage floods can have unexpected outcomes. Owning a flower shop has always been a lot, and we’ve sought to steward our little shop well and attempted to hold it with an open palm.
I’ve always been obsessed with nature and the absolute wonder it stirs in me. You don’t know how often I’ve seen a flower ‘friend’ at the shop that just almost stops my heart over it’s symmetry, it’s velvety texture, it’s head held high, it’s heartiness, or it’s message of joy. Our flowers are beyond luxe in their quality and integrity. I do hope after meeting some of our “friends” you never see flowers the same. That your heart is open to the messages they carry with them. I have loved getting to introduce you to them.
But the realest friends are ya’ll. You have shown up to keep us going for 8.5 years. Every time you have chosen us over the big box quick fix of rotting grocery store flowers, you have invested in our story. For your small buisness support, we are humbly grateful. Thank you.
Our mission, from day 1, was to step into the moment’s of people’e every day life and ‘bring beauty to your every day’. The seasonal moments of displaying the colors of fall. The anxious moments of asking that girl you like to Homecoming. The milestone moments of proms and graduations. The moments of unbelievable grief creating pieces of art to celebrate a precious life and honor a story. The moments of wedding bells and wedding showers. The moments of fundraisers for charities and schools. The moments that have heralded new life and celebrated babies in bloom. The moments of bravo for plays and athletic events well done. We have loved being on mission.
We’ve affectionately referred to ourselves as florapists, myself a licensed therapist, and the the rest of our amazing crew some of the most compassionate people you will meet. Getting to meet you in these moments has been some of the greatest delights of our last 8.5 years. Getting to hear and witness your stories unfolding. Your stories are so vibrant, full of such richness of living it has been a priveledge.
We have born witness to your pain, your grief, your unexpected, your anxiety, your utter joy, your anticipation, your creativity, your love. Our creations have been the conduit of your words, your attention, your thoughtfulness, your gentless, your apologies, your forgiveness, your spicyness, your faithfulness, your mistakes, your celebrations, and so much more. We have been faithful to take theses emotions to create and minister to you not just with flowers and plants but infused with our prayers, tears, laughter and sweat. Working in these storefronts have formed each of us to understand the value of community, the ministry of beauty, and the power of showing up.
Don’t you worry, we’ve seen the depravity of humainty up close in this industry also. We’ve learned many lessons about humans, which maybe someday you can read in the book we’ve always wanted to write. For instance, if you just started dating a girl, don’t send her mom flowers on Mother’s Day. It never gets you the accolade you were hoping for, and it puts you in an emotional spiral. You came in too hot.
Owning a small buisness that uses imported, perishable product, in this economy is near impossible. The inflation in our industry in my 8.5 years has been almost 250%. We are scrappy people and it’s been a joy to see the Lord provide to sustain us through all the chaos these 8.5 years have held for our world. And I am not a real buisness woman, I hate passing costs on, which is akward when I am paying for all your flowers because I want to cheer on your story.
We are looking forward to finishing strong, albeit different. We have a goal in our heart to end financially even and a prayer to launch us financially into our next chapter. We covet your buisness and delight in our product as we move into October. Let us bring beauty to your every day.
And as we grow and change into our next chapter may you be on mission with us. May you bring beauty to every day. You are made for people, made for beauty, and made to wonder.
Love, Breanne
