Happy New Year from Crooked Oak Farm!
I wanted to start out the new year with sharing more about our farm and what’s happening over here. When we have ongoing projects or things in “limbo”, I tend to not talk about them publicly. Maybe it’s for the surprise factor or maybe it’s simply because I’m concerned about failure. But my New Year’s resolution is to be more transparent and be okay with accepting that not everything works out perfectly and it’s nothing to be ashamed about. I’ve always been a big dreamer and I feel like once you put that dream out there, you’re more likely to actually do it! So with that being said, here are some of our goals or projects we are working on in 2025:
💐 More flowers! Of course these aren’t going anywhere but my growing space has increased just a little bit but my overall goal is to figure out my zinnia blight problem once and for all! Blight is a plant disease that basically kills the leaves and then eventually the plant. I’ve struggled with this the past two years and have a plan to hopefully combat this!
💐 Partnering with a second business as a drop off location for flowers!
💐 Farmstand - finally! This has to be the year 🤣 Whether it’s at our farm or somewhere nearby 😉
💐 Budget 😬 Yep, I said it. I want to actually make a budget for the farm and see how close I can stick to it. (If my husband is reading this, he’s probably fallen over in shock)
🐓 Get more chickens! I lost over half of my flock to a fox sadly which is why we got our livestock guardian dog, Cheese. I would like to start offering more consistent 🥚 sales in the new year which we have never been able to do.
🐮 In the next 2 years, we are working towards getting our own cows! If you didn’t know, the cows you see pictures of aren’t ours. Their farmer’s family used to own our property and we get paid to care for them. We are working through some federal programs to be able to rework our hay fields into rotational grazing and eventually bring on our own steers! ⁉️ So what does that change? ⬇️
🥩 Beef sales! That’s the long game at least. We first need them on the farm but why not put it out there and hold myself accountable! 😬
🧴 TALLOW! I tried a tallow product and have fallen in love with how it’s changed my skin! And guess what?! A friend and I are going to make our own THIS week to test out before I offer it to you. I’ll 🤞hopefully have tallow lotion, candles and chapstick coming soon! (Watch for them on v-day!)
🚜 Farm tours!!! Last year I finally decided to do a few on-the-farm events, but only one of those were a true tour of my flower field. I received such great feedback that I’d like to schedule a few official tours this year where you’ll not only get to see the flowers in person, but I’ll tell you about each one and answer any gardening questions you may have.
Other things that are the same as last year but definitely worth the mention:
💗 Collabs with my fellow small business friends! Jennah at the Heartbeat Wellness Collective, Emily at Haverly & Co, Stacey with Stacey Lee Photography, Terri at Deerfield Farms and Montana at Egg + Honey!
💐 Bringing new merchandise to Terra Yard Creations once they open back up in March!
🥂 More ladies nights with Build Your Own Bouquets
👋 Making more friends ☺️
Thank you for supporting our farm the past 2 years and I am so excited for what’s to come! 🌟
