Audra Whitelock | 54 | Cabi Stylist, Finance and Administrative Manager for Frisco Tap House

Audra’s journey is a beautiful testament to resilience, gratitude, and the power of consistency. I had the pleasure of working with her for her headshots and branding photos. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her better each time we’re together and I love her positivity. Everything she wore during her session came from her role as a Cabi Stylist, where she empowers women to embrace their confidence and beauty through fashion.

Audra’s path hasn’t always been easy. “Like stars in the vast night sky, our struggles reveal our strength; keep shining, even when the darkness feels endless,” she shared. For years, she struggled with insecurities, emotional highs and lows, and inconsistent efforts with therapy and medication. In 2008, she hit a breaking point and realized real change was needed. She committed to therapy and learned the importance of consistency and resilience. Now at 54, Audra is stronger, happier, and more grounded than ever.

She’s been married to her wonderful husband, Keith, for 29 years and has three children: her stepdaughter Samantha and her sons Sean and Chad. She has also found fulfillment in two meaningful careers: Finance and Administrative Manager for Frisco Tap House and as a Cabi Stylist. The latter has been particularly rewarding, allowing her to help women find confidence and self-expression.

Audra is also a proud member of the Business Women’s Network of Howard County, where she has served in leadership roles and is now President Elect. She treasures the friendships she’s built through BWN and Cabi, as well as the unwavering support of her family.

Audra’s story is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is a path to light. Her strength and grace inspire all who meet her, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her and to call her a friend.

Arifa Ahmed | 48 | Lawyer, Community Health and Well-Being Advocate

It was such a pleasure working with Arifa. She and her family are so warm, welcoming, and kind. Spending time with her, her husband, and their two daughters at events is always a joy. Getting to know Arifa on a deeper level through her 40 Over 40 experience and her headshot session has been truly wonderful.

“Every person, place, experience, and event in my life has brought me to where I am today. Some have been blessings, some have been tests, but I am grateful for them all,” she shared. That’s powerful and something all of us can remind ourselves.

Her story is a beautiful reminder of resilience, authenticity, and service.

Arifa was born in Buffalo, New York, to parents who immigrated from India in 1974 with little more than their education and determination. As doctors, they overcame many challenges while prioritizing service to their community and family. “They taught me the value of hard work and education, but most importantly, the value of service to others,” Arifa shared. These lessons became the foundation for how she lives her life.

A first-generation Indian Muslim American, Arifa grew up balancing two cultures. She reflected on how this duality brought challenges but also gifts. “It wasn’t always easy to feel comfortable in my own skin, but I’ve learned to embrace my heritage and be authentically me,” she said.

She began her professional career as a Family Law Attorney and found her true passion in nonprofit work, aligning her career with her parents’ example of giving back. After stepping back from law to raise her daughters, she now dedicates herself to advocacy and service. “The greatest joy comes from service as it is the essence of gratitude,” she said.

Arifa’s advice to her daughters and young women everywhere is powerful: “Look for work and partner with people whose core values align with yours. Never compromise your authenticity. Always be kind, be humble, be grateful.”

We’re so thankful to work with Arifa, her light, dedication, and authenticity are truly inspiring!

Today we celebrate National Entrepreneurs' Day, honoring the risk-takers and innovators whose passion and drive fuel economic growth and innovation.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Innovation & Resilience,” perfectly captures the spirit of the amazing business owners I’ve had the privilege to photograph this past year.

Entrepreneurship is about so much more than starting a business, it’s about learning, adapting, and showing resilience every single day.

Getting to know these incredible people and hearing their stories has been inspiring. Each one embodies this year’s theme in such a meaningful way, and I’m proud to have helped them showcase their brand through headshots and branding photography.

Rachael Mull | 46 | CEO, Manor Hill

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Rachael for her headshot and family portrait session. She’s a remarkable woman with an incredible story, and we loved every moment of collaborating with her. Her immediate family is so fun and loving, and I always enjoy spending time with her inspiring parents, sister, and brother-in-law at their beautiful farm, Manor Hill Brewing. This entire family is truly remarkable…caring, exceptional people who give back to their community in countless ways, often behind the scenes.💝

Rachael shared, “Like many others who have gone through cancer treatment and made it to remission, you will find a much stronger and more resilient person.” Her journey from corporate finance to joining her family business at Victoria Gastro Pub and Manor Hill Tavern is inspiring. It allowed her to work alongside her loved ones and grow their business to include three restaurants and Manor Hill Brewing.

In 2017, Rachael was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer. Enduring surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, she emerged stronger than ever, gaining invaluable perspective on life and its true priorities. She credits her faith and the unwavering love from her family for guiding her through that challenging time.

Now, at 46 and more than five years cancer-free, Rachael cherishes raising her two children and running Manor Hill Productions and Manor Hill Brewing with her family. Her story is a beautiful reminder of resilience, gratitude, and the incredible impact of family and community.

Sherri is one of those rare souls whose generosity and kindness seem endless, and I feel so fortunate to have her and her family as part of my life. If humility needed a photo in the dictionary, Sherri’s would be the perfect choice. She’s a true community cornerstone, always sharing her time, wisdom, and resources to serve others. Whether on a board, in her family’s funeral business, or quietly helping anyone in need, Sherri brings warmth and support wherever she goes.

Growing up in Howard County, she’s seen the community grow and change just as she has. She first found her calling in hotel catering, where she thrived on making special events unforgettable, from weddings to bar mitzvahs. But life had more in store—becoming a single mom inspired her to go back to school, earn her mortuary science degree, and join her family’s business. That decision has allowed her to be a steady, compassionate presence for people facing profound loss.

Now a proud grandmother, Sherri continues to be a loving pillar for her family and community. Sherri always says, “Giving is far more important than receiving,” and she lives by it. Surrounded by family and friends, Sherri feels blessed by the love that fills her life.

Marla Harrison | 44 | Commercial Relationship Manager at Sandy Spring Bank

Marla Harrison, a vibrant and dedicated Commercial Relationship Manager at Sandy Spring Bank, has built an impressive 16-year career, earning a strong reputation in the banking community. At 44, she balances her fulfilling career with a busy family life in Woodbine, Maryland, where she lives with her husband and their two children, a 15-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter.

Beyond her career, Marla is deeply involved in her community. She serves on the Board of Directors for Camp Attaway, is Secretary for the South Carroll High School Athletic Boosters Board, and is active with the Resource Development Committee for the Arc of Howard County. Her passion for service also extends to her work with Hope Works. Marla’s love for golf has led her to co-chair the Business Women's Network of Howard County’s Golf Committee, promoting the sport to women by organizing lessons and outings.
We've had the pleasure of knowing and photographing Marla, and we're grateful that she’s not only a client but also a friend. Wendy Letow | 55 | Founder and Executive Director of Respite Retreats
I’ve had the honor of knowing Wendy for years, and have been fortunate to call her a dear friend. I absolutely adore and respect her for the strength and grace (and humor) she brings to life.

Wendy’s story is one of incredible resilience. “Cancer does not define me, but it has defined where life has taken me,” she says. Diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in situ of the cervix at 42, Wendy didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation, but she faced surgeries and lived with the fear of cancer. “I downplayed my experience, comparing it to others as if it were insignificant. But it was hard, scary, and extremely painful," Wendy shared.

By the time she turned 50, she had undergone five surgeries, with the second leaving her cancer-free. Through this experience, she reflected on what was missing for her family and created Respite Retreats - a place for cancer patients and their loved ones to reconnect and heal. Wendy's journey has led her to a beautiful place of service, offering respite and peace to others navigating the same difficult path.
