It is with great sadness we are announcing that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic; the Ely Marathon, Boundary Waters Bank Half Marathon, Dorothy Molter Rootbeer Run and the Northern Lights Glow Run 5k are cancelled for 2020. We are saddened for the loss this brings the running community, the City of Ely and the many businesses that benefit from this event.

After a meeting between Minnesota race directors and the State of Minnesota, it was clarified that the state has set the maximum participants in outdoor races to 25 people. That includes all racers, staff, volunteers and spectators.

We understand that a lot of what makes the Ely Marathon and Boundary Waters Bank Half Marathon special is the beauty of running in the woods along with the special perks and amazing community support. We realize these attributes are impossible to transfer to a virtual race. That being said, all registrations and sponsorships for the 2020 Ely Marathon and Boundary Waters Bank Half Marathon have automatically been transferred to 2021!

The Northern Lights Glow Run 5k is put on by the Northern Lights Clubhouse, An organization supporting mental wellness in the area. The race is a large and needed fundraiser for the organization. Please consider joining their virtual 5k race to help support this worthy cause!

The 2021 races will take place September 24-25. Registration is now open for the new year! Get a head start and begin your training now! Any new registrations made between July 10 and September 1, 2020 will receive an Ely Marathon commemorative fleece!

The library will be having an eclipse program on August 21st as part of our NASA @ My Library programming. Please come and watch the eclipse with us! We will have solar glasses, activities, and a live NASA feed (just in case the weather is cloudy).

This is the first annual; we hope this event will grow and grow but we cannot do it without you.

Locations and projects are conducted with City approval. Must be 21 to be served alcohol. Underaged participants will receive other refreshments.

HAIKU HAPPENING
Channel your inner poet and join the KESS GALLERY "Haiku Happening". The event is a new addition to the Celebration of Art and Music during the month of April. Each participant may submit two of their original haiku poems, written in traditional haiku form, any time before April 7. A random drawing of the participants will reward one lucky poet with a handcrafted unique pen made by Peter Kess. Drop off your entries with your contact information at the KESS GALLERY where they will be on display during the Celebration.
