Ohio Sprint Series Ohio State Sprint Karting Championship Series

05/21/2024

The Ohio Sprint Series Leadership has had to make the very tough decision to cancel Round One due to two primary reasons. Firstly, key organizers have encountered pressing family concerns that demand their immediate attention and prevent them from fulfilling their roles in coordinating the event. Secondly, there has been feedback from many competitors that the Memorial Day Weekend event is a challenging weekend to attend, which makes it unfeasible to proceed. These combined factors have led to the difficult decision to cancel the event to ensure that future events can be better supported and organized.

Shelley from G&J Kartway has been a blessing to work with and we look forward to another event in the future. One of the key things the OSS had planned for Round One was to honor our Veterans through Racing4Vets. With her recommendation, the six registered Racing4Vets competitors who were going to be honored at our event will be honored during the OVKA Champion Memorial Race, July 6-7th, 2024. We look forward to seeing you all there.

In the meantime, we would like to publicly thank these 6 individuals for there service and sacrifice. Our freedoms are not free! Thank you Rainer Pansch, Randall Potter, Ray McKibben, Billy Cloon, Gary Rump, and Chad Kunkel!!

Thank you to our sponsor RDC Shoes (www.rdcshoes.com) and their support of our veterans that are part of the Ohio Sprint Series.

Several Ohio tracks are still available for practice and testing, but Saturday saw Adkins Raceway close out the racing season with competitors from multiple states taking advantage of the beautiful weather to challenge each other and the famous Adkins Monza.

With no racing in Ohio (at least for the next few months) we’ll try to keep you up to date with industry news and information about some of the big out of state races taking place throughout our off-season.

Up this weekend is the one of the most prestigious races in the world, the SKUSA SuperNats XXVI (that’s 26 for those of you who don’t speak Roman). This event takes place every November in Las Vegas and literally brings in teams from around the word. Not able to make it to Vegas this weekend? Don’t worry, Xander Clements and the gang from Kart Chaser are covering all of the action live from Las Vegas Motor Speedway starting Thursday with final practice and qualifying. The best part is the entire broadcast will be free of charge all the way through Sunday’s main events.

In other news, CKNA released their 2024 North Division schedule with the first race taking place April 19 – 21 on the newly repaved G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. Other stops for the North Division include Autobahn, Road America, and Whiteland Raceway Park.

Ohio Sprint Series Announcement – October 16, 2023

First, we want to thank all of those who have called us in support, encouragement, constructive feedback and sharing their thoughts on how to best move forward.

We want to take a minute and walk through the course of events briefly and how we will take care of things to best serve our racing community.

With the challenges that were presented to us at the Lorain Grand Prix we were put in a position where we were trying to best move forward recognizing all the series and club programs schedules. We tried to open the remaining weekends to capture more participants who may run a different tire, but that unfortunately didn’t gain traction through Monday, October 2, 2023. We were facing a very challenging event based on the entry count at 12:00noon on that Monday along with a large financial loss from the Lorain Grand Prix, we made the decision to cancel the event in Wilmington. Then, we received multiple phone calls from competitors indicating that they were interested in coming to MCC but wouldn’t register until Tuesday before the event to determine if the weather would be favorable.

Therefore, with the uncertainty, MCC made the best decision for them and ultimately, we believe the right decision.

Moving forward, we want to let everyone know that all competitors who have paid for either an individual event or the season pass will be receiving an email from the Ohio Sprint Series and a phone call to discuss the options available to make each competitor whole. That email will be sent Wednesday, October 18, 2023, and calls will be made from Thursday through the weekend.

With all of this, we also want to share some highlights for the 2024 Racing Season.

1. We heard from the community and will be adjusting the Tire Requirements for the 2024 season.
a. Competitors can race with any of the following brand/model of tires:
i. MG Red, Hoosier R60B, Hoosier R70, MOJO D2, and VEGA Red.
b. Rotax and Tillotson Spec Classes will Run the Spec Tire
i. Rotax – MOJO D2
ii. Tillotson – T4 Nations Cup/Maxxis Tire
2. The Kick-Off Event for the 2024 Season is confirmed for Memorial Day weekend with an Indy 500 Watch Party at G&J Kartway.
3. We will be running a hybrid of Single-Event Weekends and Double Event Weekends.
a. Single-Event: Practice Day, followed with Race Day (e.g. – Saturday Practice, Sunday Race)
b. Double-Event: Practice Day, followed by 2 Race Days (e.g. – Friday Practice, Saturday Race, Sunday Race)
4. The Complete 2024 Schedule will be released as soon as some additional agreements are finalized this week.
5. Kid Karts – The OSS Piston Kup class will be run in 2024 at all Ohio Sprint Series events. The Piston Kup Drivers Race Entry Fee is covered by the Series. Drivers will be responsible for Pit Passes and Practice Day Passes.

Again, we want to personally thank all that have called with both encouragement and criticism. The only way we can get better and grow from here is to learn and gather feedback.

Stay tuned for all the 2024 details which will be announced by Monday, October 23, 2023.

A special thank you to Shelley Powers from G&J Kartway and Elmer from Wilmington Raceway Park. They both have made significant contributions to help OSS continue as a state series here in Ohio, and each has stepped up in many ways over the last month or so to support us during this difficult situation.
Shelley has worked with us to host events in 2024. The 2023 G&J Kartway season was already booked when the OSS was formed to continue a State series in Ohio.

We look forward to 2024 and hope for the opportunity to earn your support after a challenging year.

Round 3 & 4 Update:

While we were excited about heading to Wilmington Raceway Park in Wilmington, OH this weekend for the makeup event of Round 3&4 of the Ohio Sprint Series, we weren’t aware of how many racers wouldn’t be able to make this event as they head down the final stretch at their respective local tracks, Club Series, National Series, and other Fall Sport commitments.

With this information, we spoke with Elmer at Wilmington Raceway Park and have agreed to make the tough decision to cancel the Wilmington Event.

Scott and I will be working diligently over the next couple days to confirm attendance for the event at MCC KartPlex as we realize the schedules are getting very tight with other conflicting events.

We encourage everyone to support their local clubs this weekend and Elmer will be having open practice all week and weekend at Wilmington Raceway Park.

We apologize for the late notice and will be reaching out to all registrants now through Tuesday.

Best of luck as you wrap up your seasons at your local tracks, clubs, and national events!

Our little boy Liam Patrick celebrates his 6th Birthday in heaven. I often think about him and what he would be doing if he were still here with us, and then I think about what he may be doing in heaven.

I smile, sometimes I shed a tear, but most of all I know that God has a plan greater than mine.

I am thankful for the opportunity to go to Spain and the two World Championship Titles that were won, along with the USA taking the Nations Cup.

I know that the little man was upstairs watching and rooting us on with my Dad Mom, and Mother in Law, and I pray for wisdom and their help as we deal with some challenges ahead this week.

I love you Liam and I miss you!

We will be publishing some key details for the event in the next 48 hours, but we wanted to share the weekend schedule as this is complete.

Please notice that we are running 8 classes for this event. This will help us get in 3 practices each race day.
