Converted by Ralph Sweet for Square Dancing in 1959, this rental hall is now owned by his daughter Polly, and is still a favorite spot for weddings, birthday parties, receptions, showers, meetings, auctions, dog obedience classes, Contra dancing and Square Dancing. Conveniently located close to I-91, about 8 miles from Springfield, MA, and 17 miles from Hartford, CT, it is available for rental for
special events as well as welcoming visitors to its regularly scheduled activities. Check out your favorite type of event - dancing, auctions, dog obedience school, or childrens parties. The historical Powder Mill Barn in Hazardville (Enfield) CT, was the horse barn of the Hazard Powder Co. which supplied 40% of all the gunpowder used during the Civil War.
The barrel cocktail tables are finally done just in time for the first fall wedding tomorrow!! I just stood and looked at this area for about 10 minutes before leaving tonight remembering my swingset and slip ‘n slide being in this exact spot just a few years back… 😆 Thanks to LJ & co. for your handiwork and my amazing husband for helping get through the many fun hours of mulching & planting the last few weeks! 😅

Hello folks, as you probably know, we recently started a new Barn Dance series at the Powder Mill Barn in Enfield CT. This Saturday is our second dance, and we are hoping to see some old friends, and to make some new ones. A "Barn Dance" is a simple dance evening with easy dances, anon experience is required. WE will dance some dances in straight lines facing a partner, some in circles where we keep, or maybe change partners, some squares, and possibly a waltz.
Again, no experience is necessary to attend, and no partner is necessary. Teens and above are welcomed in this community dance, and you should be OK dancing with folks you do not know (Yet!).
The fun starts at 7PM at the historic Powder Mill Barn, 32 South Maple Street, in Enfield CT. Please note that you must bring along a pair of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes so we can protect and preserve the wonderful dance floor.
The dance leader and caller for the evening is Rich Sbardella. Rich has been calling dance throughout New England for over 30 years, and the musicians are Craig Edwards (fiddle) and Tom Randall (guitar) who began playing music together in 1980. Both make a living playing and teaching music. Their musical collaborations include playing countless square and contra dances, and in bands playing Old Time, Bluegrass, Blues, Irish Cajun, Zydeco, H***y Tonk, and Rock'n'roll."
Now that the holiday season is over, it was so nice receiving this review from Samantha & Jon on our WeddingWire page! Personally, December weddings here are my favorite, and it makes me so happy to hear the cozy barn was perfect for their big day. Great crowd last night for our first of hopefully many more “Shindigs” we’ve had at the Barn in a few years! HUGE thanks to Daniel & Megan at Riley Generators for saving the day today! The power was out in Hazardville all day due to tree limbs taking out a power line.. but we noticed the generator at the barn wasn’t kicking on. Turns out it needed a new battery, some other minor maintenance, and I also got a lesson on what to do to keep this thing running smoothly in the future! I will definitely be signing up to have it serviced every year, especially so it will be sure to crank right up in a snowstorm, or if the power ever happens to go out while an event is going on! 😬😅
The new shed was delivered today! Over the last year, we emptied out and took down 6 old rusty sheds plus a 40ft trailer to clean up the property a bit. It was a lot of work... I say we earned this fancy new one! 😅 #The Barn Yard and Great Country Garages
Demo day! Although it’s sad many events this spring have been cancelled or postponed, all this extra time is being used to get some big projects done around the barn. Hope everyone is staying sane & healthy! 🙂
