People say I’m good at writing, but that skill seems to have left me completely. My dad left this earth last night and I’m not sure how to share how that feels. My heart has never been more broken. There’s no word smithing that can do justice to the man he was. But I’m so grateful to have been part of his time on earth. And I’m so proud of my mom and my siblings for the way we walked him over the finish line. I will miss him every day but I’m so glad he’s not suffering anymore. Rest in peace, dad. No one deserves it more. I love you.

Happy Anniversary to Aleina and Josh! I love a wedding that is perfectly suited to its season and setting. Their late September wedding at Thornewood castle was the perfect blend of the colors of early Fall with the romance of their historic venue. Their wedding day team was full of so many of my favorite wedding professionals, which always brings such a joyful energy to the day! It was an absolute honor to help create the perfect setting for them to celebrate their love and all the love of their family and friends that surrounds them. and .weaver9 here’s to many more happy anniversaries!

20 years of marriage… of choosing each other, learning how to be the best partners we can be, facing challenges together and leaving plenty of space to let each other grow. There’s a lot about marriage that we’re still learning and will continue to learn for the rest of our lives. But I know that I picked you as a partner because of your character- your integrity, steadiness, selflessness, compassion, kindness, loyalty and patience (And also because you’re taller than me and know how to use words like their/there/they’re properly 😂)- and it’s been the best and most important decision of my life. I love you . Here’s to our next 20 years!

I can’t believe we still need to be out here saying this, but grown adults in a free country should be able to love and marry whoever they choose. But since US senators are still making horrendous comments (looking at you, Michigan) about the love of my friends and family and trying to get their rights overturned, clearly our work is not done. If your religious beliefs forbid you from marrying someone, by all means follow those beliefs. But you do not get to impose them on others. You wouldn’t want someone of a religion you don’t follow to impose their beliefs on you. It’s really that simple. Paisley Petals celebrates the love of awesome humans through the beauty of flowers, and that’s exactly what we intend to continue doing. These 2 humans in particular are some of my very favorites on the planet, and I was so honored when they agreed to be part of this shoot! .james.8t4 I am so grateful for your friendship and your leadership in our community. This place is better because you are here!

This photo is from nearly 20 years ago, and we had already been friends for 14 years or so. The gift of having a friend who has known everything about you your whole life and chooses to love you through all of it is difficult to describe. Anyone who knows knows how lucky I am to count her as that friend. A true ride or die if ever there was one, who challenges me when I need it, listens while I verbally process the same thing 500 times, shows up for her people and her community in ways that are inspiring and keeps me sane when the world feels anything but. I am so glad you were born on this day (the number of years ago shall remain unnamed) and even more glad that I get to be your bff. Hope today is full of all your favorite things! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Summing up 25 years in business with an Instagram post feels like an impossible task. So I will just say that this business of mine has shaped who I am in some really significant ways. It has taught me valuable lessons and shown me what I’m capable of. Keeping a business running through the changes of marriage, having babies, a global pandemic and all of life’s various challenges has not been easy. But it has absolutely been worth it. I’ve built a life around a job I love that allows me to help provide for my family, exercise my creativity and live in rhythm with the seasons. I grew up being taught to be humble, not to toot my own horn, etc. But I am dang proud of what I have built, and I’m shouting it from the rooftops today! To everyone who has been a part of Paisley Petals- family and friends, amazing vendor partners, each and every client who has put their trust in me, and especially my husband who might literally be the most supportive flower husband on planet earth- my most heartfelt thanks for helping me build a life that I love! Cheers to 25 years!

Happy first day of Fall! It’s always been my favorite season, and I love all the floral colors and textures that come with it. I made this bouquet for last week. There is just nothing quite like working with clients who trust you completely, and working with Dani was an absolute joy!

Yesterday I went to a workshop that is literally called “Social Media Aversion Therapy” with .ellen.anderson. When I read the course description, it felt like someone had been spying on my thoughts! It’s so common for artists to be shy about showing their face. Or to have some complicated feelings about social media in general. Or to get so caught up in overthinking that we neglect to post much at all. (🙋🏻‍♀️guilty on all counts) When I think about what I want for this space, ultimately I want it to be a place for you to connect with the beauty of flowers and the joy they bring, to follow your curiosity about how these big events come together, and to feel welcome and at ease. I’m going to be trying hard to show up here more often in an effort to meet those goals in a way that feels authentic and not subservient to the algorithm. I hope you’ll join me! Also, if you are an artist and have a chance to learn from .ellen.anderson , you should absolutely jump at the chance. She is thoughtful and kind in her approach while challenging the kind of thinking that gets you stuck. Even if you just start by giving her a follow and signing up for emails, you won’t regret it!

We’re getting so close to the return of spring blooms! Eryn’s early April bridal bouquet featured local ranunculus, narcissus, and muscari. Can’t wait to get my hands on spring flowers again!
