It’s called Mocha Mousse, and it’s the 2025 Pantone Color of the Year! 🤎

In the form of flowers, this tone adds a unique and natural looking feel. The Lisianthus we grow in this color range has turned out to be one of our favorites this past season, so the pick is a pleasant surprise. 💐

We’ve been at it digging up and tucking our dahlias away for a long winter’s nap! Here’s a peek into what it takes to make sure these beauties are ready to bloom again next season:

❀ Digging Them Up: After the frost hits, we carefully lift each tuber from the soil, making sure not to damage any delicate parts. The plant produces multiple additional tubers each year, and we want to maximize the number of viable ones we save.

❀ Cleaning & Drying: Next, we gently brush off excess dirt and let the tubers dry for a day or two. This helps prevent rot during storage.

❀ Dividing & Labeling: We divide larger clumps to encourage healthy growth next season and label each tuber by variety—so we remember who’s who in spring!

❀ Storing Just Right: The tubers go into crates with peat moss, sawdust, or wood shavings, and we keep them in a cool, dark space with good airflow and a controlled climate with a temperature between 35°F and 50°F. This keeps them from drying out and protects them from mold.

Dahlias are such a gift to grow, and this little winter ‘rest’ ensures they come back stronger than ever! See you in the spring, dahlias! 🌸💫

With the season winding down, I realized I haven’t really stopped to take the time to make myself a bouquet all year. 💐

It is such a joy to share our flowers with you, and that fuels us to keep going during the craziness that is farming. But, it is important to slow down enough to enjoy the journey and do something kind for ourselves. 🌸

How will you treat yourself today?

*bouquet contains roses and greens left over from last weekend’s wedding, a few dahlias, grasses, and mahogany hibiscus grown on the farm.

The term makes it sound like a gift, and for most flower farmers the end of the season does usually bring a sense of relief after so many months of hard work.

However, this year for me it feels unfair. The forecast next week is showing highs in the upper 60s and even a glimpse of 70°, so I thought we’d certainly have more time.

Time for planting seedlings and labeling the dahlias. Time to make myself one last big bouquet. However, Mother Nature has other plans.

It was an early spring this year with many of our crops coming in two weeks earlier than typical. So, there was no reason to think that the season wouldn’t end a little early as well.

It’s often hard to let go when I have other plans, but I’ve learned that swimming against the current doesn’t serve me. I’ll try to surrender to this next season and be grateful for all of the magic we have had in 2024.

We still have a handful of tunnel crops and a few frost hardy things, so stay tuned to see if we have limited offerings at The Studio. Otherwise, see you next year!

We’re grateful to be involved in some special weddings, and this one was no different! 💍

The amount of details that were included on this big day certainly pushed our creativity to new levels! 💐

❀ Location: The Kahkwa Club

❀ Theme: Vintage Books and Rustic Fall Vibes

❀ Paper flowers made of pages out of the groom’s favorite novel, blended into each arrangement and installation.

❀ Sweetheart table centerpiece arrangement dropped into stacks of novels originally belonging to bride’s grandmother, with slots specifically cut to fit.

❀ Centerpiece arrangements dropped into stacks of novels, with slots specifically cut to fit, as well as table numbers created with pages from the groom’s favorite novel.

❀ Hand-tied bridal bouquet, utilizing a tie originally belonging to the bride’s grandfather in place of a ribbon or other more common materials.

❀ Wooden Arch custom-built by Bella’s Blooms, decorated with floral installations and draped with cotton fabric to serve as a photo backdrop after the ceremony.

❀ 4ft Urn arrangements decorated with tree branches and florals to fit the Fall theme.

❀ Bud vases, signage florals, cake flowers and additional arrangements to tie everything together.

A ton of patience and hard work went into customizing and building the materials used for this wedding, and it was all worth it to see it all come together on this special day! 🙌

We’ve been dodging a frost all week, and hope it holds off as long as possible! 🥶

The Studio is stocked with a limited number of arrangements, and this might be one of, if not the last, opportunities of 2024 to indulge in some fresh blooms grown locally right here in Erie, PA! 💐

We’ll keep restocking as much as possible, but these might not last long! 🌸

A busy weekend is in store, and we have a few updates! ❀

❀ You can find us at the Goodell Gardens & Homestead Wedding & Events Expo this Sunday at 3pm, shortly after we complete a tear down of a large wedding!

❀ Our Erie Food Co-op drops are done for the season. Thank you to everyone that has purchased our blooms from them, we look forward to continuing our partnership next season!

❀ We will have a very limited supply of arrangements available this weekend at our Studio and Ember+Forge. Last chance to enjoy some fresh, locally grown flowers is just around the corner, so be sure to stop by and treat yourself or someone you love!
