Seed, corm, tuber, and the list goes on… TO Bouquet! I spend hours upon hours in the winter seeding thousands of soil blocks to then transplant in the flower field when the timing is right. Each flower has its own unique needs, and often I feel like my project management background serves me well when I’m balancing succession planning and planting to have flowers week after week spring to first frost. I can’t even describe to you how happy I am to see this sight. Thank you Matt for the pain and suffering of building my seed room. I’ve felt soooo far behind waiting for it to be finished and there’s seedling on every surface of our home, but I’m working as fast as I can to get them moved into their new space and have a long list of starting seeds Monday 💚

Never would I have thought I would ever obsess over insects. Since flower farming, I’ve made it my mission to learn everything about good and bad bugs, how they balance out the ecosystem, and how I plan my crops to naturally address especially the bad ones. So now I’ve become the lady freeing insects from indoors or letting that spider reside inside to eat all the flies 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’ve also made it my mission to help educate. So before you squash… please think twice. Also, when you see lady bugs at the nursery or grocery store… know those poor souls got robbed from the mountains of CA and you’re now introducing an invasive species to your space. Instead rely on those green lace wings that actually eat a ton of bugs like aphids. I don’t buy in bugs… I’ve been patiently waiting for nature to tell their friends. This last season I was in tears soooo many times in excitement of finding alllll the cousins coming and devouring the bad guys! Plus they make for some really cool pictures.

Often times we don’t really know the “people” behind the companies we purchase from. Products get thrown in our shopping baskets without knowing how they were raised, the journey they took or the stories of the people who got them there. Coming from a family who has farmed for multiple generations, telling this story has always been a part of my upbringing and at the core of my flower journey.
I’m Rechelle the farmer and the florist here at Freckled Bloom. You’ll see me in the grocery store, school drop off, cross country meets and buying soil at our local Ace Hardware. I wasn’t born here in Estacada, but I chose it as my home 17 some years ago. This desert girl met a tree farmer at OSU, and Estacada became the place I would set my roots and raise my family.
These are more than just flowers to me. They are the smiles of the kidos picking out their fav garden bunch at the stand; the tears of remembrance from families who have lost someone; that glow someone gets when I deliver a happy birthday bouquet, and those adorable smiles behind every recital bouquet I make. I worked in health care for 20 years and the last 8 yrs of my career were spent doing Outreach. It’s amazing that I still get to wear my Outreach hat today…. It’s now creating beautiful relationships with all of you and the flowers are just a lovely bonus. Thank you for following along and all your support!

Although the blooms have faded, the farm is still VERY much alive! During this time of year I am busy starting seeds for next season’s many harvests, and my cover crops are keeping the soil full of nutrients for early spring blooms.
