What a wonderful race weekend for our winners, Max Spory and Michelle Weber! They participated in the aQuelle Midmar Mile this weekend. Max came in 9th and Michelle took 3rd.
Michelle Weber shared, “I was ecstatic to be able to compete at the Midmar Mile this year! I wasn’t sure how I was going to swim as the swells were really high in the beginning and swimming with thousands of athletes. But, I am really happy to have taken a top 3 finish. A massive thank you to the OZark Foundation for bringing me from Cape Town for this event. I can’t wait for many more swim adventures!”
Max had this to say, “ I would like to thank Mr. Wayne Riddin ( race Director for the Midmar mile) and everyone involved in putting on such a massive event! I had a great time and love the people of South Africa. My dad and I made a lot of new friends! Dave Spory (Max‘s father) said, “Thanks to Bonnie, (race Director for the OZ Mile) the Ozark Foundation, and the partnerships with Midmar, we had a wonderful experience! They (Midmar) obviously went out of their way to recognize Max and Michelle. They were a great host, organizer, and emcee.”

Our FIRST registration for the 2024 event, Rena (far right) shared this with us…
When our race director reached out to her (because that is always exciting to see the first registration come through) Rena said this was her FAVORITE race last year.
“Great big thanks to Bonnie and for introducing me to open water swimming in preparation for my first Half Ironman! I did the OZ Mile Swim as part of my training and it was honestly my favorite race event of the year. It helped me conquer something I had never done and didn’t know I could do! Coming out of the water after my first mile swim was joyful, tearful, and a moment I will never forget! You can do hard things! Dive in!”
Bonnie responded with, “Can you believe it was your favorite???? So proud of you and ALL your hard work!!!!”
