Meet Aslan, our youngest rooster. Aslan is named after a major character in C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia series. Aslan is a lion who Lewis based on what he thought Christ might look like if he was born in a world of talking animals. The name Aslan is Turkish for “lion”.

Her doctor said to give her Zyrtec. I gave her an onion 🤣

Miss Maria has had a cough for about a month. At her annual check up the doctor said it might help to give her Zyrtec. We went to the store to stock up on onions!

Onion poultices are an all-but-forgot-ten folk remedy for clearing congestion in the lungs and sinuses. The advent of modern antibiotics made them seem antiquated for most of the past century, but because of the growing awareness of antibiotic-resistant pathogens, as well as the damage antibiotics can do to the gut microbiome, there’s renewed interest in this use for onions. I follow Mother Earth News magazine’s great recipe for an onion poultice, but then I add soothing local honey. Message me if you’d like the recipe!

This week a business acquaintance emailed me this wonderful note. “This is going to seem completely out of the blue, but I have to share this with you! My husband has been going to PT and is always coming home telling me about this awesome kid there. How he’s so funny and loves how he interacts with the adults – especially his therapist. And how he is just so determined and is such an inspiration to my husband. I mean, EVERY time this boy is there my husband tells me about him. And he is always bummed out when they aren’t there at the same time. (ok, as I’m typing that it sounds kind of creepy – but I promise it’s not!!) The other night he mentioned that the kid’s dad is always with him, how he seems really nice, and that he’s in a wheelchair. I immediately thought of Wheels 2 Fields when he said wheelchair and pulled up the FB page. As soon as I showed my husband the pic of Jeremiah, he was like “Yep! That’s him!” So I just thought you needed to know that your son is touching so many people’s lives just by being himself and he doesn’t even know it. That’s pretty darn special!!!!” . Pro tip: If you’re thinking about planting Beggar Ticks, make sure to cut them before they go to seed—trust me, you don’t want to end up like this, covered in burrs! 🌿 Beggar Ticks bloom with beautiful yellow flowers that attract butterflies and bees (they’re actually a major nectar source for honey production in the South!). Even our chickens love snacking on the greens and barbed seeds, but I’ll be trimming these a little sooner next time!

Baby chick has hatched! Momma is happy and I was able to move both of them and the other eggs to the coop. All is well 🥰

Have you heard a baby chick peeping/chirping from INSIDE the egg!? I had no idea this was possible. I can’t wait to meet this little one. Also… any idea how we are going to keep them safe on the front porch!? She won’t tolerate being moved. She abandons the nest if we move her and the eggs.

FIRST FROST. FROSTMAS…. Whatever you call it. It is beautiful and a little sorrowful. It signals a change in the season. A time to say thank you to the flowers. The season was a little lighter than years past but still wonderful. We’ll spend the next few weeks planting more PEONIES and then tucking in for winter hibernation.

To ease myself into the season.. I moved about 15 dahlias into our tiny greenhouse. Let’s see how long we can enjoy those. 😉 HAPPY FROSTMAS. ❄️

Thank you for supporting our family farm this season. ❤️

Beautiful evenings as the daylight weans.. I can tell the winter rest is coming. Soon it will be time to move a few lasting flowers into the tiny greenhouse so we can soak up the last of summer.

Have you ever felt stuck? Lately, I’ve been grumpy, overwhelmed, and feeling stuck. I suspect some of it is due to an unhealthy gut, along with the stress from Jude’s surgery recovery and my injured Achilles tendon. On top of that, I’m frustrated with my garden. This spring’s heavy rains followed by a dry summer and various setbacks have led to a garden that’s less productive than usual. We still have many beautiful flowers, but not the abundance we’re used to. Today marked the beginning of our fall mixed dahlia bouquet subscriptions, and I pray we’ll have enough for the next five weeks.

When I feel stuck, I turn to prayer, reminding myself that God is always there, guiding me through challenges. Today, after a brief pause, I continued listening to the Bible in a year; I’m on day 255, with just 110 days left to finish it! If you’re still with me… I’d love to know: how do you get unstuck?

Baby Sprinkle ❤️🌿

In gardens where the sunbeams play,
Bright petals dance in soft array,
A sprinkle of joy, a tender grace,
Adorns the day with nature’s lace.

For this sweet babe, these flowers bloom,
A promise of love’s warm perfume,
In every petal, soft and rare,
A sprinkle of joy fills the air.

Wheels 2 Fields - Inspiration

A local all-natural family flower farm and florist in Eureka, MO. We share our love of growing flowers by offering safe, scented, local flowers. In 2006 our family was introduced to its first set of wheels when Jeremiah was paralyzed. 2015 we met our second set of wheels when our youngest son Jude started to learn to overcome his disabilities and walk with a walker. In 2018 we found our inspiration and third set of wheels.. a historic farm wagon. We are called to overcome our disabilities and nourish ourselves and others with our all-natural flower farm.
