Camp Fire Minnesota is a youth development nonprofit organization helping young people be better stewards of their communities, their world, and themselves. With 103 wooded acres on the shores of Lake Minnewashta, Camp Fire Minnesota has programs for youth ages 3-17. With summer and school break camps, PreK-12 field trips, community-based afterschool programs, Northwoods adventure trips, and leade

rship development, there's something for everyone at Camp Fire. Camp Fire is available to rent! Contact us to discuss renting our various spaces for youth groups, weddings, retreats, team-building, and conferences/meetings. Our Grand Rapids property is also available to rent! Camp Fire Minnesota is located on the lands of the Dakota and Ojibwe people.

Our Belonging Series explores what belonging means to our community through the voices of youth and families in our programs. Through storytelling, we explore how Camp Fire helps create spaces where kids feel safe, confident, and connected, and where belonging truly belongs to them ✨

In our second installment of the series, a parent describes how Camp Fire helped their child feel accepted and supported at a time when they were struggling at school. From navigating food allergies to building friendships and trust with counselors, Camp Fire helped their child feel safe, understood, and free to be themselves 💛

This week, we had the joy of welcoming Whittier Natural Leaders (Minneapolis Community Education), one of our long-term partners, back onsite for their yearly partner overnight!

Throughout the course of their visit, the Natural Leaders taught us super fun songs, dances, and new ways of noticing nature 🌿Thank you, Natural Leaders!

It's International Bonanza at Camp Fire! ❤️ Each year, this themed week highlights and celebrates the many cultures and countries represented by our camp counselors. Typically, each overnight camp cabin represents a different country, which campers learn about throughout the week. From singing national anthems to trying national dishes, campers engage in fun activities to grow their knowledge of each country 🗺️

This year, overnight campers received a "camp passport" and collected a stamp at each cabin they visited. Afterwards, they took part in intercultural activities like food tasting and musical performances 🎶 Thank you, counselors, for the bits of home you shared with us🧳✨

Did you know that our Afterschool Explorers program continues during the summer?☀️Throughout the season, Afterschool Explorers staff collaborate with four different partner sites to keep teaching young people about nature and leading weekly field trips in the Twin Cities! 🚐🌳

This week, one of our Afterschool Explorers sites learned all about birds 🦃 They used pocket microscopes to study and identify bird feathers 🪶 Then, they discussed bird migration patterns in North America. To end the lesson, each student built and decorated their own bird house to keep seeing and engaging with birds at home 🏠

Thank you to our programs team and our partners at Minneapolis Community Education for keeping the magic of Afterschool Explorers going all year long! 🌟

This summer, we have partnered with an amazing organization, Tickets for Kids Charities, to help even more young people find their spark in nature through unforgettable and educational adventures! 🌿

This group joined us for a day filled with learning about animals through hands-on investigation, identification, and art! One educator shared that Camp Fire Minnesota staff were the “right level of expert”, patient, flexible, and engaged with the students. Another shared, “One student in particular who has been struggling lately, got back to his loud, blurting, impulsive self, and it was the best part of my day! It is still the talk of the school today.”
