Join us on Thursday December 8th for a book signing with local author Tony Reid who worked closely with law enforcement to investigate the case of the Golden State Killer! Snacks and refreshments will be served. Reid will be answering questions and copies of his books will be available.

“For Tony Reid, this case began as a claim of innocence in the murder of Donna Jo Richmond in 1975. While the errors in the original investigation and a flawed trial resulted in a guilty verdict, the reassessment confirmed that the defendant was framed but the question became: by whom? Working with a new team of investigators, which included two of the original detectives, the probe uncovered a startling new possibility: Was the real culprit a serial offender?

Turning to the public for information, Mr. Reid created the 12/26/75 podcast. Based on primary evidence and new interviews surrounding the murder of Donna Jo on that date in Exeter, California, the team re-examined every possibility. The investigators soon found something more than a terribly failed verdict. They discovered connections to the unsolved murders of Jennifer Armour and Claude Snelling—and links to The East Area Ra**st. They uncovered shocking corruption by the original lead investigator who illegally destroyed trial evidence and looked into the unexplained death of the original defense attorney. This pursuit led them right back to Exeter, where a new suspect in these murders emerged: Joseph DeAngelo, who was then a full-time sergeant with the local police department, the officer in charge of violent crimes and burglary investigations.

This book is more than an adaptation of the 12/26/75 podcast. It shares new insight formed during the investigation and provides a first-hand look at the Tulare crimes, as well as exposing the faulty evidence used to obtain and maintain the false conviction. More than anything else, 12/26/75 demonstrates the enormous consequences of letting a serial killer go free, made worse when combined with the painful mistakes, in-fighting, and finger-pointing by certain jurisdictions. The catastrophic results are undeniable. Now that the mystery of how it all unfolded is revealed, we can also begin to examine the reforms necessary to prevent this tragedy from happening again.”

Gloria Getman, local Exeter author, has written her 4th book, and her first foray into historical fiction set in 1904 in Arizona. We are pleased to carry all of Gloria's books here at Book Garden. Read below for a brief synopsis of "Della's Destiny"

"The year is 1904. Della McCrea and her parents arrive in Jerome in Arizona Territory when it is well known as a rough mining town. The fact that it has the richest deposit of copper ore in the country worth millions of dollars is of little interest to Della. The only thing on her mind is nursing her mother back to health and returning to her beloved home in Ohio to recapture her life she left behind. While her father works in the mine and her mother's health declines, she copes with her new situation and never gives up hope.

Orphaned before long, she soon learns that survival takes s***k and the willingness to take a risk. Without funds and with few friends, she must use all her skill and wits to earn the rpice of a train ticket to take her home. As her troubles mount, the question becomes; Can she escape Jerome without her character being sullied, and to what length she will go to achieve that end?"

About the author-
Gloria Getman, author of the Deena Powers Mystery series, spent 25 years as a registered nurse before following her bliss into writing fiction. This is her first venture into historical fiction. She grew up in Southern California, graduated from California State University Bakersfield, and lives in Exeter Califronia with family nearby. Her books are available at the Book Garden in Exeter.
