Flowergrams ❤️💕- A Washday Floral tradition for 6 years now! It all started when I sold them in high school as a club fundraiser back in the 90’s… and then I got to thinking it would just be the cutest thing to offer for Washday customers.

It’s been so fun to watch you spread the love over the years as you pass them out to neighbors and friends, take one to grandma or a special aunt or coworkers, the bus driver, your mailman, a teacher, or maybe someone that might have experienced a recent loss or feel a bit lonely on Valentine’s Day.

It’s a great activity to do with the kids - some customers make it a yearly tradition! It’s also a really sweet and thrifty way for teens to give their valentine a little something thoughtful.

I’ll never forget this sweet message that was sent to me a couple years ago:

“Last year I had my boys give out one of your rose flowergrams to each teacher. One teacher (who they absolutely love) came running out to me at pickup with tears in her eyes saying that she loved it and hasn’t gotten a rose since her husband passed away years ago. Thank you for all that you do and know that you are making so many people feel special ❤️”

If you’d like to join the fun this Valentine’s Day just comment below and tell us who you’d give a flowergram to! (No, don’t tag them! Let it be a surprise 😘 just say friend, teacher, grandma etc!).

I’ll choose 3 people on Instagram and 3 people on facebook to win a free flowergram! Winners will be announced Friday and grams will be picked up next week.

Flowergrams are available to pre -purchase on our website $5 for a carnation and $7 for a rose.
Also available at discounted rates for 5 and 10 packs. Each gram comes in a cellophane sleeve with a tag, heart stickers and a string to tie on your note. 💌💕💐❤️

They will also be available next week in the shop!

Thanks for spreading the love! ❤️🥰

I recently shared a beautiful story featuring Washday Floral and now I can attest to the quality of their product!

I believe tomorrow is the last day: they are sending the proceeds of their fundraiser bouquets to Palisades, a flower shop in California that was destroyed in the fires and will hopefully be rebuilt.

I took the opportunity to send “just because” flowers to my beautiful neighbor MG DW and thank her for her friendship.
The order process was quick and easy and the flowers were delivered in a timely manner.

The presentation is professional and elegant, and the bouquet is extraordinarily fresh and beautiful!

This little boy was delighted when, directly after school, he got to receive these gorgeous flowers from the lady delivering.
Look how he’s smiling with his eyes!

Support small, support local!

I will share a link to the Palisades fundraiser in the comments.

Walk through our doors.
Take the time you need.
The world is heavy right now.

Unknowns.
Fear.
Mourning.

My son just called me with tragic news about a friend of his.
My next door neighbor passed away this week.
And 67 of somebody else’s neighbors died in a plane crash last night.
Neighborhoods in California are gone.
And neighbors in Asheville are still in tents.
With nowhere to call home.
Another neighbor of mine came into the shop yesterday expressing her worries about her husband’s job and an email he received.
A woman came in to buy flowers for her friend yesterday whose dog suddenly passed away.
I have had friends lose dear friends lately. Unexpectedly.
I have teacher friends that are taking deep breaths as they worry about students.
Parent friends that are taking deep breaths as they navigate the hurt they feel on behalf of their children experiencing discrimination.

It’s just that there is a lot. And what I’ve come to realize is that when we truly have empathy in our heart, we hurt when others hurt, we seek to understand. And when we can’t, we can still offer a space for them to feel how they feel and listen with an open heart.

Because we are all carrying something heavy, and if not now, inevitably you will. And I hope you are met with the same gentleness.

Always.

Things like soap and candles and flowers seem so frivolous at times like this, but when we see you come in here, slowing your stroll, smelling a dozen smells, absorbing the music and the warmth and taking in the color and creativity…

We feel it an honor to offer a space to pause for a minute, feel welcome, comfortable and calm.

So remember, we are here.

We are hear to help you.

Help you help your neighbors.

To help you share your kindness and thoughtfulness.

We are here. 💛

Thank you Ashley Paul of WJZ Baltimore for featuring us on the news last night!

Ashley had seen our posts about our fundraising efforts for the LA fires and wanted to come out and talk to us a bit.

Thank you to Dana from The Grazing Room for coming to the shop to be interviewed and to Chrissy Waters for being a brave customer!

It’s a bit nerve wracking to be on camera, but we love to contribute to any positive news and do what we can to help.

EAST COAST ❤️ WEST COAST

Thank you to those of you who have purchased fundraiser flowers. We do have some to purchase today (Saturday) so come on by! And if we sell out, we will be continuing this for one more week!

Fundraiser flowers are available to purchase for next week on our website! It would be very helpful to pre-order so we can prepare. I will link directly to that below.

You can also send money directly to Palisades Flowers through their Gofundme which I will also link below.

Thank you!

On the morning of the flower delivery (that I spoke about in my last post) I had an idea.

I thought about the recipient, how she must feel a bit out of sorts with her stay here in Harford County quite a bit longer than anticipated. I wondered what we could do to help her feel more welcome here.

I quickly messaged local business friends to see if they might want to contribute to the gift and if so, I’d pick it up that afternoon on my way to make the delivery.

They all said yes.

The Grazing Room packed up salads and a gift card.

gave a significant gift card to put toward a treatment at their lovely studio.

Amanda over at put together a gift bag with some pretty little goodies and a gift card to help her build back her wardrobe.

jumped in to donate a gift bag containing a generous gift card and even offered a coupon to discount the purchase even further.

And of course chipped in too. 💛💛💛✏️

As I went around to the shops, each business shared their condolences and concerns while expressing gratitude in being able to do something to help.

The recipient was moved to tears when all of this love showed up at her door.

I gave her my cell number in case she needs any help or has any questions while she is staying here.

She messaged me later that evening thanking us again, adding “I can’t wait to visit each one of these shops over the next couple weeks to thank them in person”.

I told her that each of us would look forward to welcoming her in at any time. 💛

I just want to personally thank each of the women who donated. And in such a whirlwind short period of time too. I’m so grateful to know such kind and generous business owners. 💛

I received a message on my recent California post saying to check my inbox for an urgent message. I thought it was spam. Turns out it wasn’t.

The message in my request box:

Hi there,

I see that you’re on break until the 17th but I have a friend that would really appreciate some beauty in her life at the moment - she just lost her home and her cat to the Los Angeles fires. She lived in the palisades. She was in MD visiting her boyfriend at the time and she’s still there now until she’s able to come home.

Would you be willing/able to craft something small for her? I’ve been looking to find a special florist to send her something and I came across your account/ and also see you used to live near LA as well ❤️❤️ I can’t tell you how grateful I would be! xx

- - - - -

She came to the right place for many reasons, one being that we are from California, but also just because we really do love to create as many ripples of kindness through our community as possible.

We don’t normally deliver to the area that she mentioned, but, I told her, of course we will make an exception. I would be honored to help.

She placed the order online with a color request. Mostly pinks with sunset accents.

We had ordered in pinks and orangey-reds and a bit of peach for a Valentine’s Day photo shoot, but I knew I needed a pop of orange and yellow, so I quickly added some sunshine to my flower order this week.

She wrote in the notes section during checkout the message her dear friend was to receive:

In honor of the pink house of Lachman Lane. I am so sorry for your loss. I love you so much, T.

(Shared with permission. Stay tuned to learn how this arrangement inspired more ripples of local kindness and a flower fundraiser I will announce soon)

01/11/2025

If you are new around here you may not know this, but my sister Cortney and I grew up just north of Los Angeles in Bakersfield, CA.

So LA was our city. Like around here you might travel to Baltimore or DC or Philly, we headed down south to Los Angeles to catch all of our flights, to go prom dress shopping, visit relatives, go to concerts, events, amusement parks, Lakers games, beaches, and even receive specialized medical care.

My dad took his last breath at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

So, it’s a part of my life, that city.

And to watch it burn- those familiar stucco walls and towering palms, winter’s citrus scorched on its’ branches, to watch the the surrounding hills aflame - the restaurants we went to evacuated, the coastline ravished.

💔😔

I’ve been watching in shock as I am sure you are too, wondering what I could do. Who I could help.

A former student of mine who is in the music industry posted links to musicians, producers and bands who lost everything in the fire. A whole list with gofundme links.

How terrible to lose your equipment, your instruments, your collections, your livelihood.

Then I thought- I wonder if any flower shops have burned down. And how could I find out? So I googled Palisades, CA flower shop and found a flower shop address, found their instagram, and I was able to see that yes. Yes, a flower shop did burn down.

And they lost everything. 😔

I saw that the owner posted her Venmo a couple days ago asking if anyone could spare anything to help her staff and family as they deal with this devastating loss.

I know that the flower community is strong. And generous. And I’m really feeling for them, because all the people they serve are going through the same thing so it’s not like their own community can rally around them, you know?

So - I just wanted to put it out there - I thought it would be nice if anyone in the flower community wanted to help lift the burden and spirits of we can send money to her gofundme account:

Just before Christmas we had the honor of designing for a funeral. We get asked often if we do sympathy flowers and funeral work and the answer is - occasionally. But we would love to do more.

We were approached by a client who was looking for something more than the typical funeral fare, something that spoke to the holiday but yet had warmer earth tones.

We were able to bring her vision to life and create three pieces for the family. A casket spray from the children, a wreath from the grandchildren, and a floral heart from the great grandchildren. I just love the thought and intention behind each piece.

It truly is an honor to offer such beauty in these times of sorrow. We understand that funerals are often unforeseen and there are a lot of decisions to be made in a short window of time.

If you are planning, or know someone planning a service in our area, and might want something with a bit of an elevated design, something different and customized, consider contacting us at [email protected]

*thank you to for your help in designing for this event *

I’m not saying it’s magic, but there’s definitely a power behind setting your intentions for the year, creating a visual manifestation and reflecting on it daily.

I took a vision board class from in 2023 and filled a small memo/bulletin board with my dreams for the year. And I put it next to my bed and saw it every day. It was amazing to watch the year unfold.

Stacie will be providing posterboard, glue, scissors and a smattering of quotes, stickers and magazines. It’s fun to bring magazines, old books to cut, or other paper ephemera to share. I brought a small, inexpensive memo/bulletin board and thumbtacked it all together. You could do the same. I also raided my Pinterest board and Instagram feed for images that inspired and printed out pictures for myself to cut and use.

I’m excited to dream with you in the Washday studio on Sunday afternoon, January 19th between 1-3pm. We just have 10 spots. Sign up will be directly on the website, linked below. If we fill up quickly and if there is more interest, we will look at adding more dates/times.

Here’s to a strong, beautiful, intentional and inspiring 2025!

Do you have big plans you want to accomplish in 2025? This workshop will help you visualize the what you want in 2025!

Little things that are making me happy:

1. I bought myself a little $20 flocked tree from At Home for my bedroom this year. I’ve never had a Christmas tree in my room before. Feels luxurious. I barely got it up before Christmas so I have no plans to take it down anytime soon. I’ll probably add hearts💕and more bows 🎀 and it will be my valentree through February.

2. I spent Christmas Eve afternoon with fresh evergreens, enormous sugar pinecones and my barren window boxes. At first I was chastising myself for not having done it earlier in the month, but then I just thought it was the perfect meditative and peaceful creative work I needed that very afternoon. I put on Sufjan Stevens Holiday album and scrubbed out my dirty windowsill until it gleamed and now every day I really do enjoy looking out these windows. (And I can’t wait to see some snow fall on these boxes).

3. I’m a Mrs Meyers superfan but often when I’m out and about I can never find the scents I’m after (I was really after Iowa pine for the holidays). So I did something I’ve never done before and went directly to their site on Black Friday to see if there were any deals. Oh, there were deals and there was free shipping. So I ended up paying about $3 a bottle for all my fave scents and stocked up for the year. Looking at this little lineup in the laundry room makes my heart skip. I know, nerdy … 😆🤓

4. This is my vision board from two years ago but I love it so much I’ve never taken it down (It’s next to my bed). And I don’t plan to 😂. I made it with Stacie from at her vision board class. She didn’t offer one last year, but! I’ve roped her into teaching at the shop and I’m so excited to host our first class of 2025!

There will be details about the class on so be sure to follow up. Only 10 spaces available, but if more are interested we will have a waitlist and maybe book a second time.

If you didn’t catch it, we are closed until January 17th. Catching our breath a bit, but also working on inventory counts in the shop and inventory refresh post holiday.

I’d love for you to share something that is making you happy at the start of this year. 💛
