Get ready to bring the spirit of Mardi Gras to life in the sweetest way possible! Join us on February 1st at That Place Downtown from 1-3 pm for a fun and festive Mardi Gras-themed cookie decorating class. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer, this class will guide you step-by-step as we decorate delicious cookies inspired by the colors, beads, and flair of the iconic celebration.

⏰ Tip #8: Stick to a Timeline
Plan out the flow of your shower, from when guests arrive to when gifts are opened. A simple schedule keeps things running smoothly and ensures you have time for everything.

My favorite basic outline:
• 0:00 – 0:15 | Arrival & Fellowship
• 0:15 – 0:25 | Welcome & Icebreaker Game
• 0:25 – 0:45 | Main Game(s)
• 0:45 – 1:15 | Meal or Snacks
• 1:15 – 1:35 | Gift Opening
• 1:35 – 1:50 | Pictures with the Guest of Honor
• 1:50 – 2:00 | Thank You & Farewell

🎉 Tip #7: Keep Décor Simple but Stunning
A few well-placed decorations can go a long way. Use fresh flowers, balloons, or themed centerpieces to bring your vision to life without overcomplicating things.

😉 Pro tip:
Focus on decorating the mantle and exposed brick space at TPDT for a focused look! Purchase a few signature pieces that go with the theme and use what you have for filler.

⁉️ Do you offer decor packages? No not yet, but we hope to create an inventory of all we have available so that you can rent 1 themed box of decor. We will get there eventually! 😅

🍴 Tip #6: Plan a Simple, Crowd-Pleasing Menu
Whether you’re working with a big budget or a tight timeline, there are plenty of ways to serve delicious food! Have each hostess buy or make one item for the table. If you’re short on time, store-bought treats can be beautifully arranged to look homemade. At That Place Downtown, we make it easier by offering prep kitchen access so you can bring your menu vision to life!

😉 Pro tip:
My favorite splurge is on fancy foods!! A grazing table filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, and crackers is a low-maintenance, visually stunning option. For morning events, I LOVE a brunch bar with pastries, hearty small bites, fresh fruit, and a mimosa station. (Sam’s Club homestyle chicken bites, Sam’s Club honey butter, and Sister Schubert rolls make amazing copy-cat CFA chicken minis!🤤)

⁉️ Frequently asked question:
Do you have a place to warm things in the kitchen at TPDT? Yes! We have an oven, toaster oven, and a microwave all on separate breakers! We are currently working to organize our kitchen for easier access.

✉️ Tip #5: Send Invitations Early
Give your guests at least 4 weeks’ notice to RSVP. Whether you go with paper invites or digital ones, include all the important details: date, time, location, theme, and registry info. (A Facebook event also does really well and sends automatic reminders!)

😉 Pro tip:
Go to Canva.com, create a free account, and type “free invitation” in the search. If you are creating a Facebook invite, you can search “invitation Facebook cover photo.” Don’t see your theme? Click a template then go to elements and search. For this first invite I searched “watercolor woodland creatures” You can also take this design, delete the date and time, but leave the title and theme to create a poster board display for the shower! See the second photo.

⁉️ Thinking about doing a video on diy canva invites and poster boards for showers. Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see how I create things on canva!

👥 Tip #4: Choose Your Guest List Wisely
Showers are often more intimate, so it’s important to focus on family, close friends, and those who mean the most to you. Start by brainstorming different groups of people in your life—immediate family, extended family, close friends, co-workers, neighbors, or community members. Think about anyone who has played a meaningful role in your life or the guest of honor’s.

✅ Using categories like these can help ensure no one is forgotten and make the list-building process easier. Don’t forget to check with the guest of honor to finalize the list and keep things personal!

⁉️Frequently asked question:
What if I don’t have many friends or a big family? I have seen showers of all sizes. You don’t have to make a huge guest list to have a great shower! If you have a smaller guest list, focus on fun activities and atmosphere.

😉 Pro tip:
Use music, room blocking and strategic table set up to create a cozy atmosphere. That Place DownTown has lots of spare furniture out that can be used to fill space for smaller guest lists and speakers to play background music!

📅 Tip #3: Book Your Venue Early
Secure your venue as soon as possible to lock in your preferred date and time. Shower spots like That Place Downtown fill up fast, so don’t wait! We post and pin an updated calendar.

⁉️ Frequently asked question:
What does it mean when our calendar says “partially booked?” This means that there is either a morning or afternoon event, but there is enough time to fit another booking into that day. Don’t be scared to ask what times are available on certain days when trying to schedule!

😉 Pro tip:
Don’t be scared of a Friday night or Sunday afternoon shower! Sometimes it’s easier for people with kids who have weekend sports and may result in higher attendance!

💰 Tip #2: Set a Budget
It’s easy to get carried away, but setting a budget ensures you can focus on what matters most. Prioritize items like venue, food, and décor to keep spending in check.

My favorite way to get the biggest bang for my buck is to buy decorations or games that can be given to the mom or bride to be as gifts!

A “paci hunt” or “sock hunt” is a cost I can justify because after the shower the mom to be gets the 20 pacis or socks to take home for baby! Writing messages on diapers and decorating onesies or bibs, have the same effect!

For an April Showers themed bridal shower, we purchased a clear umbrella to attach cards as “showering the bride with advice” and she got the umbrella to keep, as a backup for her wedding.

💡 Pro Tip: That Place Downtown offers affordable packages that fit every budget! Choose a weeknight for a much cheaper option!
