A Japanese style arrangement called ✨ Ikebana ✨

(Swipe to the last frame to see my doggo coming to admire my photo set up during afternoon light)

I’ve been interested to try this for myself and finally had the opportunity this week!

It’s different from my usual style. I’m trying to push myself to branch out and try new techniques.

I’ve seen this style of arranging used as an alternative to typical bud vases for romantic events (like weddings) which add a feel of whimsy and elegance without overwhelming amounts of flowers.

Ikebana is based in minimalism and form, using the negative space in the arrangement just as much as the flowers themselves.

All it takes is a simple flower pin frog (this one is from Amazon and is weighted so it stays put) and a few stems.

The vase is thrifted (I will always buy green glass thnx).

Many of my inspiration photos for this had less stems than I have here and with less flower varieties.

Grab one and try it for yourself!

It’s not that knowing how to grow these flowers and their proper harvesting stages weren’t helpful. It’s that these two other things took me from one income level to another.

Two things made my business take off this year:
1. Investing in an in-depth workshop led by an amazing flower farmer who has tackled so many challenges over her farming career. Learning how she creates efficiency and strong business practices through her work 100% changed the course of my flower journey. thank you!!

2. Figuring out marketing, SEO, backlinks, and building an online store did so much to put my business in front of the right people. Luckily I’m married to a digital marketer who can explain this to me like I’m 5 😂 invest in figuring these things out or hire someone who can help!

Some of beauty happening around here the last couple of weeks.

1: whimsical bowl for pick up
2: dahlia tuber clump
3: one praying mantis that we ‘grew’ from eggs this year to protect the flowers
4: homeschool phonetics with my kindergartener
5: medium fall bouquet for delivery
6: my eight year old harvesting the last of the gomphrena (her fav variety was the strawberry fields from )
7: my husband helping clean up some of the garden beds

Still working through the dahlia row digging up tuber clumps for storage. I dig them up, wash them off, let them dry and then store in vermiculite.

Some of my bulbs have arrived while others have been delayed due to the port worker strike. I’m happy to plant what I have!

I’ve never grown narcissus (daffodils) but I’m excited to grow a few specialty varieties ✨ speciality tulips are being planted as well!

I ripped up one of my beds of celosia to add these babies in. It’s feeling good to switch up the beds and prep things for spring.

I’ll still be offering flowers online but these will not be locally grown. I’ll be switching up photos and offerings in the site over the next few weeks.

Thank you all for your support and purchases throughout the season!

I’ve enjoyed taking more time to photograph the arrangements heading out my door and into yours.

I used the extra paint from our living room to paint a canvas tarp and hung it up near a window with some good lighting.

I’ve done photography for a long time. Roughly half my life. Although I don’t use photography as a business anymore, I enjoy using my skills in my floral work.

Featured is our Elizabeth Vase. This is a seasonal mix of what is currently blooming.

Waking up & heading straight into the flower field is like walking into a dream.

Birds are chirping; the moon is still out; the air is cool; the chickens are clucking in the background.

I love the life we are creating & that’s a little different than the norm.

Believe it or not, we are open on the weekends! Order online or call for same day delivery.

September is looking good 🌿

The garden is in reset mode as we clean up some weeds that have attempted a coup on the field. Some flowers have puttered out or they are things I decided I didn’t like and wanted out. This helps clear the way for fall bulbs and lessens the clean up at the end of the year.

I’m already excited about Fall in the garden. Not only for the flowers that will be blooming but also the prep to get bulbs in the ground for spring. I’ve preordered some fun things!

We are getting back in the swing of the school year. We homeschool (2nd year) and have been having fun with it! The last week and half have been about slowly getting into the rhythm while not feeling overwhelmed. This week we will start all of our lessons ✨

We are ripping out our family’s summer veggies to prep for fall veggies 🥗 what do you guys like to grow in the fall?

Last week dump ✨

Our summer subscriptions ended yesterday with one last delivery day! Thank you so much to all of those who chose to get regular flowers, eggs and sourdough delivered to their door 🫶

Some other arrangements headed out the door this week and I loved making people’s day with freshly harvested flowers!

While my dahlia bed is not producing as much as I expected, I am sourcing local dahlias over the next 2 weeks to create something special. I grabbed the cutest new vases for dahlia arrangements that will be coming in the next week. I can’t wait!!

The season is ending in the next 6-8weeks for fresh, local flowers. Don’t miss out ✌🏻
