Peter J.Brown grew up in a musical household in Farmington, New Mexico. His parents Jim and Norma played Country, Folk, and Bluegrass and Peter got started in the world of music at an early age. Country music was always on the family radio, but at night when the signal was good Peter tuned in to radio stations like KOMA (Oklahoma City) and KRST (Albuquerque) and got his Rock and Roll fix. Influenc
ed also by the music he saw on TV; American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Sonny & Cher, Hee Haw, Soul Train, The Osmonds, The Lawrence Welk Show, The Johnny Carson Show, and others, Peter eventually developed quite a mixed bag of musical preference! During his Jr High and High School days, he jammed at house parties and in garages with friends like Mario Dobbs, Charlie Lynch, and Kevin Roberts, among others. While serving a 5-year hitch in the Army, Brown joined forces with a Bluegrass combo in the 3rd Infantry Division Band in Wรผrzburg, Germany. The combo (Red White & Bluegrass) performed at festivals and concert halls from Vienna to Paris, Munich to Munster, and points in between, including a 4th of July gig for dignitaries at the US Ambassador's residence in Kรถln, Germany. Red, White and Bluegrass also played a couple gigs at "The Truckstop", a popular country-western nightclub in Schweinfurt, Germany. Peter returned to the States where he studied Art at the University of New Mexico. While living in Albuquerque he played Folk music at EJ's Coffeehouse (near campus) for tips and coffee! After graduation in May 1992, Peter moved back to Farmington, learned some new songs, and fronted a few bands: The Bootleggers, StraitShot, and Blue Sage, and they gigged in the bars in the Farmington-Cortez-Durango area for a few years and landed jobs opening for Tracey Lawrence, Mark Chesnut at McGee Park and Molly Hatchett at The Country Palace. Today, Peter performs as OTIS & THE RHYTHM, a compact one-man musical show using custom-mixed backing tracks for the full band sound. Otis plays guitar and sings a wide variety of great cover songs.
