Otis & the Rhythm

Otis & the Rhythm Peter Brown has performed locally as Otis & the Rhythm since 2003, playing guitars and singing Country, Rock, and Blues using pre-recorded rhythm tracks.

Peter J.Brown grew up in a musical household in Farmington, New Mexico. His parents Jim and Norma played Country, Folk, and Bluegrass and Peter got started in the world of music at an early age. Country music was always on the family radio, but at night when the signal was good Peter tuned in to radio stations like KOMA (Oklahoma City) and KRST (Albuquerque) and got his Rock and Roll fix. Influenc

ed also by the music he saw on TV; American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Sonny & Cher, Hee Haw, Soul Train, The Osmonds, The Lawrence Welk Show, The Johnny Carson Show, and others, Peter eventually developed quite a mixed bag of musical preference! During his Jr High and High School days, he jammed at house parties and in garages with friends like Mario Dobbs, Charlie Lynch, and Kevin Roberts, among others. While serving a 5-year hitch in the Army, Brown joined forces with a Bluegrass combo in the 3rd Infantry Division Band in Wรผrzburg, Germany. The combo (Red White & Bluegrass) performed at festivals and concert halls from Vienna to Paris, Munich to Munster, and points in between, including a 4th of July gig for dignitaries at the US Ambassador's residence in Kรถln, Germany. Red, White and Bluegrass also played a couple gigs at "The Truckstop", a popular country-western nightclub in Schweinfurt, Germany. Peter returned to the States where he studied Art at the University of New Mexico. While living in Albuquerque he played Folk music at EJ's Coffeehouse (near campus) for tips and coffee! After graduation in May 1992, Peter moved back to Farmington, learned some new songs, and fronted a few bands: The Bootleggers, StraitShot, and Blue Sage, and they gigged in the bars in the Farmington-Cortez-Durango area for a few years and landed jobs opening for Tracey Lawrence, Mark Chesnut at McGee Park and Molly Hatchett at The Country Palace. Today, Peter performs as OTIS & THE RHYTHM, a compact one-man musical show using custom-mixed backing tracks for the full band sound. Otis plays guitar and sings a wide variety of great cover songs. THANK YOU BDSC DANCERS

While playing at Bonnie Dallas Center last night the dance group surprised me with a birthday party; a big 3-layer double chocolate cake and this card which everyone personalized.
How cool are these people?

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNEY DINNER GIG

It will be my honor to once again provide the musical entertainment for the Betty Buffington Memorial Golf Tournament Dinner in the High Desert Club at SUNRAY Casino on wednesday, May 17, 2017

This will be the ninth (or tenth) year that I have had the pleasure to perform for this gathering of 250 or so golfers and their guests.

It's a real compliment to me, that these good folks -while they could hire anyone they wanted- have called me year after year to request Otis & the Rhythm play and sing for them.

I'd like to convey my gratitude to all the golfers who participate in, and to those who organize the Betty Buffington Memorial Golf Tournament and Tony Montano, Marketing Director of SUNRAY Casino.

I'm getting ready for and looking foward to playing the event again this year. The O&R show has made some improvements since 2016; some dental work and new britches, boots, rhythm machine, table, power amp and some new songs are sure to help make 2017's show all the better! -Otis

Otis & the Rhythm is interested in playing at other benefits, and playing pro-bono for fundraisers, and charity organizations/events. Call 505 592-6797 for more information.

O&R is now established on BANDMIX.com. :-)
Its a great way to meet other musicians in the area who also love music, and want to play whether for fun or professionally.
One of my goals is to get with a drummer, bass player, and
Rhythm/backup vocalist/performer and put together a country band, hire a manager and an Agent and get to work, stay busy for a while and maybe make a little money in the process.
Interested in being part of the band? pm me. -pb

ANOTHER SONG IS finished, in what will eventually be my "2016 Christmas Album", which doesn't have an official title yet. I hope you enjoy listening to the Christmas covers i am recording at home and posting here. I welcome any feedback or suggestions you might have. Maybe you could suggest a song to include on the album(?)
Here is my version of the great song, Christmas In Dixie, by Alabama.
Let me know what you think.

The Splinter is the handmade 6-string lap steel guitar I designed and built in 1994. It is made of solid oak and spare Telecaster and Stratocaster parts. It features Ping tuners and a Noiseless single coil pickup. It has a nice crisp, full-bodied tone.

I used to play the Splinter when I was playing the bars with a band, then I used it for the first six or seven years of the Otis & Rhythm show. It has recently been worked on to lower the strings and it has undergone a redesign of the circuitry and since it plays better and sounds good I will begin phasing it back into the show. I'm excited about it, and so is The Splinter! :-)
