A good summary of US Open Cup info

Are you an amateur or semi-professional soccer team in the United States interested in competing in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup? Heads up, you have less than two weeks to apply for Open Division Local Qualifying, which is scheduled to begin in early October.

The tournament is open to all affiliated amateur teams that meet basic eligibility requirements. Teams that advance from the Qualifying Rounds in the Fall will advance to the Tournament Proper in Spring 2025 where they will face professional teams.

Here is a great overview of how amateur teams can qualify for the Open Cup. Our own Newtown Pride of the Connecticut Soccer League did this not long ago.

With a new year comes a new edition of the United States Adult Soccer Association's top tournament; the National Amateur Cup. The winner of the 2024 tournament, the 100th edition, will qualify for the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The format is as follows:
is divided into four regions around the country. Each region holds its own Amateur Cup tournament, with formats varying, that is open to teams playing in USASA leagues.

Three of these occur over weeks from spring to early summer.

The champions of the regional tournaments, four in total, advance to the National Amateur Cup finals. That is a simple knockout tournament, taking place over one weekend in one location.

This year it will be in DeKalb, IL from July 25-28.

Since 2018, the United States Soccer Federation has invited the USASA National Amateur Cup champion to the following year's US Open Cup.

2018: Milwaukee Bavarian Soccer Club
2019: Newtown Pride FC*
2021: Lansdowne Yonkers FC
2022: Bavarian United SC (Bavarian SC: UPSL, Majors and Reserve)
2023: SC MesoAmerica (MesoAmerica FC)

Since each USASA region has a different amateur cup, we're going to go over each one. The dates we know, how to enter, the format, and anything else we can provide.

- USASA Region I (Northeast)

Single elimination knockout, expanded to 16 teams for 2024. State associations, plus the National Premier Soccer League, send 1-2 teams each. Typically teams are chosen by winning state cups.

Seven teams are officially qualified as of today.

- USASA Region II (Midwest)

Single elimination knockout, open to teams in the 14 state associations + two national orgs ( and US Club Soccer).

ENTRY DEADLINE: March 1
GAMES BEGIN: April 12
REGION 2 FINALS: June 23

Fee: $100*
Prizes: $300 per win, $1000 to champ

June 7-9 at MESA Soccer Complex (Greer, SC).

Mix of states sending teams + open entry eligible teams (state associations + two national orgs).

Teams sorted in groups & play multiple games a day. Top four teams advance to knockouts on Sunday (semis + final).
