Welcome to our new page and our new jam!
Fayetteville has a rich and vibrant musical scene, with several open mic opportunities around town.
But Fayetteville also has an abundance of skilled semi-pro musicians, so it can often be difficult to get a spot at one of these shows.
It can also be very intimidating to get on stage with others of higher skill levels. Most events are held at bars, and not everyone is comfortable in that environment.
The best way to improve as a musician is to play with others. So we’re aiming to fill that void with a shred free, judgement free, low key, strum along jam for beginner, intermediate and mediocre musicians looking for a chance to improve their skills.
We are hosting weekly open jams, based out of Old Street Tattoo, behind Capitol Encore Academy- just a few feet from the Markethouse.
We do intend to expand to other locations around town to give everyone a chance to join in. This page will keep you updated on our rotating locations.
We”ll have a few available acoustic guitars, mandolins and banjos on hand if you’d like you can try one, but feel free to bring your own. Electric guitars are welcomed if you keep it clean and at a comparable volume. Dropped tune chugging and high gain pedals will be discouraged.
We will be providing some easy G-C-D-Em chord songs to start, and go over enough basic theory to get everyone strumming along. Song selection will typically be classic rock or country, but if it’s playable, catchy and family friendly, we can use it. Everyone will have an opportunity to bring in a song and lead the group, but keep in mind our goal of playing together and building each other up, rather than showing off.
This is something this region has needed for a long time. We hope you can make it to our first session on Thursday Dec 12 at Old Street Tattoo, 6:30 pm till around 9.
We’d like your help, advice and promotion to get this show rolling. You can respond here, or write to me directly. Thank you Troy Duke for your generous help with the facility, and we’re all excited to see this get started!
