Thatโs a wrap for the holiday season!
Our lightshow is now closed for the season, with many more holiday seasons filled with lights ahead of us in the coming years.
As we wrap up the 2023 year, we at Crane Orchards thank each and every one of you that have come out to support us this year. Whether it was for Cherries, Peaches, Apples, or the Lightshow, we are grateful for you all. We are able to do what we love because of the love and support you all show us.
With that being said, it has been a long summer, fall and winter, growing fruit and preparing the lightshow; so we are now going to spend some much needed downtime with our families before weโre back at it shortly prepping for the growing season. We wish you all a very Happy New Year!
Weโll see you in the summer for cherries and peaches! ๐ ๐

We are sorry to update but due to the warm weather and rain, we will be closed for our Lightshow Friday December 1st. The rain has mixed with our dirt roads (remember, weโre a farm ๐) and has turned them into muddy messes. We donโt want anyone to get stuck, so we are working hard to fix this issue. We hope to be open again Saturday night! We will post an update tomorrow to confirm. Thank you for understanding, and we hope to see you tomorrow night!

1865 was the first year our family planted roots on this land.
1885 was the first year that we started commercially farming.
2000 was the first year that we opened as a U-Pick orchard.
2001 was the first year we opened our corn maze.
2003 was the first year that we premiered our featured haunted corn maze.
2020 was the first year we planted our pumpkin patch.
2023 we are proud to announce as our first year for our Drive-Thru Holiday Lightshow!
Today is the big day! ๐
We have poured our hearts and souls, a bit of sweat, a few tears, and every bit of free time weโve had apart from farming, into creating a very special experience for our customers. We have thousands of hours into building hundreds of props and have decorated our orchard into a winter wonderland (farm-style). We hope that everyone enjoys seeing our orchard in a season that they typically donโt get the chance to. While we may not be the largest lightshow around, we can certainly say that we have a unique show, with props pulling inspiration from farming, pop culture, and the seasons. We look forward to creating more and continuing to grow our show. We canโt wait to share the holiday seasons with you starting this year!

With our Drive-thru Lightshow consisting of hundreds of *entirely* hand-crafted props (designed, planned, and crafted by us using wood, paint, and/or metal), we donโt want to spoil the fun for anyone, but here is a tiny little sneak peak at one small detail! We canโt wait to share the rest with you starting this Wednesday!

Itโs Cherry time! Hereโs a quick video from Rob, Trevor, & Taylor on why you may want to pick your cherries with or without the stems. ๐

This history really starts in the 1880s when what is now Crane Orchards, was cleared and planted by H.H. Hutchins. Since the property included frontage on a beautiful inland lake, the lake itself was named Hutchins Lake.
In 1917 a young Michigan Agricultural College graduate and his wife, Muriel (who also graduated from M.A.C.) started on their life journey together here at Crane Orchards. They lived, loved and farmed here together, raising a family and helping to build the community of Fennville until H.B.s death in 1968. Muriel followed him in 1974.
In 1950, their youngest son Robert returned from the Navy and married Lue. They farmed together and raised kids. Their sons Gary and Rob are both farmers today. Gary and his wife Sandy own Gary Crane Farm across the road from Crane Orchards. Rob, along with his wife Maria and Robโs dad are partners at Crane Orchards.
In 1967 Robโs Mom and Dad, Bob and Lue Crane, were at a crossroads in their lives and with their family fruit farm. The farm had been in Bobโs family since 1917. It was a beautiful farm, 200 acres of gently rolling hills just four miles inland from majestic Lake Michigan. It had all the right qualities for growing fruit. However, the problems the Cranes were having were the same ones small farmers across the U.S. were having. There was no money in a small family farm. Corporate farms and foreign imports were taking their toll on the traditional family farm.
Today, Crane Orchards is one of the finest u-pick orchards in Michigan. With over 17 different varieties of apples, 10 varieties of peaches and sweet cherries for the discriminating u-picker to choose from, the scenery is breathtaking. The fall of 2002 saw the first corn maze for visitors to get lost in; there is a completely new and different maze design every year. Also, hayrides around the farm are available for folks to enjoy on the weekends in the fall. With each new idea offered to Cranes visitors comes the pleasure of sharing just a little of what we have here!
