Great fitness workshop to help you with your game held here at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center.

SWING INTO SPRING! The golf swing is a very complex athletic movement requiring strength, focus, balance, flexibility, and range of motion. Keep your body 'golf-ready' with Pilates exercises.

In this workshop you will learn and perform specially formatted Pilates core exercises & stretches that can help you drive the ball further and help you to improve rotation, gain flexibility, and increase your strength to improve your game. It's a great workout for all your activities; whether you swing a club, a bat, a racket or row a kayak, Pilates will condition your body!!

This unique workshop is instructed by certified Pilates trainers and is designed specifically for you with emphasis on the shoulders, hips, lower back and abs.
Dress for exercise and bring water and a iron.

$25 per person per day
Come to one or both workshops:

Thank you Fenton Historical Society and The A. J. Phillips Museum!! We loved seeing this information on the the Fenton Community & Cultural Center. 💙

We found this cool shot (by Tamlyn) of the Fenton Community & Cultural Center, which was built in 1938 with funding by the generosity of Horace and Mary Rackham.

Mary Rackham grew up in Fenton, and her father Dexter Horton was the postmaster.

The Tri-County Times describes Mary's involvement with the building of the community center this way:

"Mary Rackham had her heart set on a parcel of land banking the Shiawassee River. It had at one time been owned by the Horton family and now was occupied by the Fenton Fire Hall and a dumping ground composed the area behind it near the river. She bought the land and paid to relocate the fire hall, actually build the new fire hall located at the corner of Ellen and LeRoy Streets. She became patron to the community by financing the design and construction of the Fenton Community Center, and by selecting famed Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen as the architect, who was assisted by his son Eero."

(The article also mentions the Saarinens even built the Community Center so it could be outfitted later with air conditioning, which was unheard of in 1938!)

Mark your calendar for FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6th for a FREE sampling of SLPR fitness classes followed by a sampling of wine. It's Happy Hour at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center with a dance fitness party. Warm up with Pilates, followed by the Latin rhythms of Zumba, the Hip Hop moves of Werq, the Rock & Roll drums of Pound, then the synchronicity beats of Strong, and ending with a Yoga cool down. AHHHHH. You'll finish the evening with a tasting of wine at our instructor meet and greet!

Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation would like to invite you to an extra special exercise workshop designed specifically for GOLFERS! This Saturday 4/1 at 9:00am at the Center.

If you golf you know the golf swing is a very complex athletic movement that requires strength, focus, balance, and flexibility. This workshop will help you prepare your body for golf before you hit the links.
You'll learn and perform specially formatted Pilates core exercises that will help you improve your game.
You’ll leave with a series of stretches you can do before each round as the foundation for movement and improved range of motion.
It's fun, motivating, a wee bit challenging, and potentially the key to preventing an injury if practiced regularly. With Pilates it's possible to reduce pain in your back, hips, and shoulders by strengthening your core and to increase your functional flexibility.
Shirley Priestap is teaching the workshop on April 1st and May 6th and Monica Rynearson will be teaching it on April 29th. Both are certified Pilates instructors.
