On August 3, 2017 we bought New River Escape Barn and Guest House…we saw it as a beautiful place to share with strangers looking for a getaway and a gathering place for our family and friends. This gang of kids has used this property as a gathering place for birthdays, soccer parties, overnights, going away parties, trips down the river, fire nights, homecomings, proms and who knows what else. When I think of the joy they have brought me hearing their laughter, watching their friendly competition of spikeball, basketball, wrestling and their teasing and abundant love for each other it makes me so so SO happy that we bought this property. I would never change it.
To my favorite kids (plus Striker Ward) of the class of 2024 I wish you all the best and I can’t wait to have you back to the NRE after your next 4 months of adventure and hear the laughter and stories!!! All the best gang! You will be greatly missed.

Join Lucy and AJ on the 18 July for an introductory class into the world of Sourdough Bread baking. During this three-hour event, immerse yourself in a detailed class of starters, flour introduction, stretch and fold techniques, and step-by-step sourdough fermentation.

Come curious, come hungry, and come excited; sourdough has never been this easy! No prior experience is required, all skill levels are warmly welcomed.

About the Class
In this class, you will learn:

How to bake Sourdough from scratch
Shaping and folding techniques
Understanding bulk fermentation
How to feed and maintain your own starter
Different types of flour and their uses

Students get to bring home:

1 Sourdough (600g)
1 x 4qt Proofing Bucket
A sourdough starter in a glass jar
Full set of class notes on Sourdough, Starters, Tips and Techniques

Course Details:

Time: 4 to 7pm 18 July 2024

Each person will make a bread from start to finish – Pre-bake
Equipment and ingredients will be provided
A list of equipment needed at home and some pre-class reading will be provided 1 week before.
Bread, cheese, and a complimentary glass of wine are included.

New River Breaks Free

Just a litle bit ago the was this huge sound and something hit the low water bridge and then again and again faster and then the "thunder" began. Out we went only to see that the ice in the South Fork of the New River had broken free and was racing north (yes, north). The power of water never ceases to amaze me.

Our story

The New River Escape grew from a dream to live on a river and own a guest house. After raising children and cooking breakfast for years we knew that we didn’t want to have a traditional B&B. In August 2017, the dream came true on the historic and wild South Fork of the New River. We found the perfect place...on the river, an old farm house to live in, lofts with self-catering kitchens for guests and lots of room to enjoy nature. We are excited to share our dream with you, your family and friends.

As avid travelers and citizens of the world, we open our doors to all people of the world. We love meeting new people and learning about their adventures. Whether relaxing on the gazebo, sitting by the river or chilling out around a bonfire, we look forward to sharing stories and fun times in this beautiful corner of the world.
