Excited to share that I will be participating in my first Geaux Teal Walk this Saturday at LSU's Tiger Stadium! I will be walking in memory of Alex Wilcox who passed in 2018 of ovarian cancer. I'm proud to be a part of the Legacy Event organization who established the Alex Wilcox Classic in 2019 to honor Alex. We pledged to support Geaux Teal's mission of educating women of all ages about the warning signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer by contributing to their cause.

FUN LEGACY FACT: Legacy takes great pride in its hospitality for college coaches. During our summer event, we will go through over 7,000 bottles of water and over 11,000 bottles of Gatorade. Hundreds of boxes of snacks and catered meals are consumed throughout the event as well. Why you ask? 🤔 Our goal is to keep all college coaches on-site during the event. If they get thirsty or hungry and leave the park, there's a potential scholarship lost for a player on the field.

Q&A with Jimmy Derrick, USA Regional UIC for the Southeast (SC, GA, Tenn, FL)

Jimmy Derrick has been securing the umpires for Legacy events for over 11 years now. When Legacy first started, he secured mostly from Georgia but as the tournament has grown, he procures crews from Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida and even as far north as Michigan.

We caught up with Jimmy to ask about his history and his time with Legacy.

Where did you meet Will Tomasello, Founder & Tournament Director? It was well over 20 years ago during my slow pitch days. Will was a player and I was an umpire.

How long have you been a part of USA Softball? 42 years now. I was with metro-Atlanta for 10 years then it merged with the State of Georgia and I was with them for 12 years. Have been part of the National staff since then.

What is the draw for an umpire to work Legacy Events? The biggest draw is its professionalism. Legacy events are top tier and have set the standard to which all other tournaments and showcases strive to. Legacy houses our umpires, feeds us and pays a fair wage. They care and because of that we have a very good relationship. I have umpires calling me following a Legacy event and wanting to get on the list for the next. They love working with Legacy staff because they have our backs and we have theirs as well.

How many umpires does the Legacy utilize during its events? Anywhere from 145-150.

You're full-time job is Facilities Manager for Insperity. Aside from work and softball, what are you doing in your downtime? I love to play golf and being with people (we couldn't get his handicap out of him, LOL). I'm a very positive person. You'll have a hard time hearing anything negative coming out of my mouth.
