Not all snack plates are alike! This snack plate-cup combo is a marriage of two different patterns. The cup is Fostoria ‘American Clear,’ which is similar to other cubist patterns. However the Anchor Hocking ‘Serva Snack’ plate has three sections: a larger section for food, a second area for the cup to be placed, and a third for the cigarette ashes.

That’s correct- cigarette ashes. In the corner of that area, the plate has a notch to lay the cigarette in place. These plates very very popular in the 1950’s, when it was culturally and socially acceptable to eat and smoke during social gatherings.

Now, in today’s world, this section could be another food section. These plates are perfect for New Years celebrations, wedding showers, baby showers, open house parties, retirement parties, etc.

Crazing - chips - cracks. These are the terrible ‘C’s of vintage. We inspect every piece multiple times to ensure quality. It saddens us when we find a lovely treasure, and at closer inspection, discover crazing. Crazing is the process of the top glaze separating from the base layer of porcelain or clay. It creates pockets for bacteria growth and is not food-safe for meals. We do not use the plates in our events with meals. However, these lovely treasures can still provide visual beauty and more in displays and jewelry! #generationsvintagerentals #vintagemendocino #vintagefortbraggca #glazenotcraze
