Next up at Bas Bleu: THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, by Horton Foote and directed by Warren Sherrill.

This moving play, featuring Bas Bleu’s Founder and Artistic Director, Wendy Ishii, tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elderly woman, who longs to escape the cramped Houston apartment where she lives with her protective son, Ludie, and her authoritarian daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae. Carrie wants to return to her beloved hometown of Bountiful, Texas, one final time before she dies. Carrie escapes to the bus station and befriends a young woman named Thelma. The new friends travel toward Bountiful together, but when Carrie arrives in nearby Harrison, Texas, she begins to learn that her beloved town isn’t the same as she remembered.

We are in our final weekend of AIRNESS, written by Chelsea Marcantel and directed by Nathaniel Quinn.

Who will win the National Championship Air Guitar Competition?

Will it be the arrogant D Vicious? The artistic and nerdy Shreddy Eddy? The one of a kind Golden Thunder? The sentimental Facebender? The intense Canibal Queen? Or the new kid on the block, The Nina?

To find out, get your tickets here: www.basbleu.org or call the box office at 970-498-8949.

Meet Austin Jackson! Austin plays the enthusiastic Shreddy Eddy. We asked Austin the following:

How do you relate to Shreddy?

I've never played a character that was so similar to myself, honestly. Shreddy is passionate, goofy, and nerdy which gives me a great chance to express all those parts of myself. The passion and dedication that Shreddy has to an absurd art form is so relatable to my identity as an actor.

What do you love about Shreddy?

The balance that Shreddy finds between being very serous and very absurd. He allows himself to be completely silly in one moment, then switches on a dime to having a complete straight face.

What does Shreddy prioritize?

Self expression and authenticity. Part of his reason for playing air guitar is an outlet for all the things he might be uncomfortable expressing in everyday life.

What is the biggest challenge about playing Shreddy?

Matching Shreddy's level of self-confidence. There are so many parts of this performance that could be so embarrassing out of context, so it requires a lot of vulnerability and confidence to go out on a limb like that every night.

What motivates Shreddy?

I think that he is motivated by truth. He is disillusioned by society and all its expectations. He sees a lot of posturing and fakeness in the world, and endeavors to build his life in a way where he is free to shed all societal expectation and be his true self.

Without giving anything away, what is your favorite line of dialogue?

"Disqualified for having and instrument onstage."

Which actor in this production is going to blow people away?

Bas Bleu audiences have already met Elisabeth, but they've never seen her play air guitar. Her talent for physical expression, commitment to character, and tangible relationships with her scene partners makes her performance so dynamic and captivating.

If you could play any other character in the show, who would it be?

Facebender. He's so dramatic and entertaining, and has a very wholesome tract which seems like a lot of fun to play.

Warning: AIRNESS, written by Chelsea Marcantel and directed by Natianiel Quinn, has a cast full of colorful characters who compete in an air guitar competition. These colorful characters, at times, have a bit of colorful language that may not be suitable for tender ears. Bring your family, age 13 - 100 for a rockin' good time!

Only one weekend left of AIRNESS, the show that ONSTAGE Colorado calls: "...a guaranteed good time, seamlessly blending silliness with remarkable poignancy and depth."

Meet the cast! Meet Elisabeth Sells. Elisabeth plays Nina, the rookie with a broken heart to mend.

We asked Elisabeth the following questions:

How do you relate to your character?

Nina lives in her head and has a difficult time letting go. Her "Type A" ness is a major obstacle in her life, and I often times feel the same way. I have heard all too often that I am my own worst enemy.

What do you love about this character?

I love her vulnerability and fragility. It's hard to find it sometimes as she doesn't want anyone to, but it's there and it humanizes her.

What does your character prioritize?

Her priorities certainly shift throughout the play, but one of them is her feelings.

What is the biggest challenge about taking on this role?

The air guitar!! Obviously. She is a challenging role to take on in many ways, but I was most nervous about jumping in and shredding for the masses.

What motivates your character?

One of Nina's motivations is her fear of failure. She internalizes it, so each misstep feels more personal.

Without giving anything away, what is your favorite line of dialogue?

"People Fu*% love Sprite."

Besides yourself, which actor in this production is going to blow people away?

Everyone is killing it! I think people will be blown away by the talent in this cast, I know I have been!

If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?

I would love to play D. Vicious, if only to wear the killer kilt.

Come see Elisabeth, and the rest of the cast in AIRNESS! Written by Chelsea Marcantel, and directed by Nathaniel Quinn, there are only three performances left. Friday December 20, Saturday December 21, and Sunday December 22. For Tickets visit www.basbleu.org, or call the box office at 970-498-8949.

AIRNESS PLAYS TODAY AT 2:30!!!!

Meet Heath Howes. Heath plays multiple parts in AIRNESS to move the plot along, including the Announcer for the competition. We asked Heath the following questions:

How do you relate to your character?

Big and loud. A complex character, like an onion.

What do you love about this character?

I can mess around with the other actors with improvised lines.

What does your character prioritize?

Making sure everyone has fun.

What's the biggest challenge about taking on this role?

Being a goof and being over the top even more so than usual.

What motivates your character?

Seeing the creativity of others and trying to match their energy.

Without giving anything away, what's your favorite line of dialogue?

Come out and see D. Vicious, and the rest of our bitchin' finalists of the Air Guitar National Championship!

Besides yourself, which actor in this production is going to blow people away?

D. Vicious

If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?

Facebender.

Come and see Heath, and the rest of the cast, in AIRNESS! Written by Chelsea Marcantel and directed by Nathaniel Quinn, AIRNESS plays weekends through December 22. For more information, and for tickets visit www.basbleu.org.

We are playing our way into another weekend of AIRNESS!!!

Meet the cast! Meet Trisha Gillian. Trisha plays the intense, and competitive Cannibal Queen.

We asked Trisha the following questions:

How do you relate to this character?

I also eat people... just kidding! I relate to her desire to be seen and respected for her abilities and how she pushes back against being objectified.

What do you love about this character?

I love her drive and her "anything you can do, I can do better" attitude. That was definitely my motto when I was younger.

What does your character prioritize?

1. Her appearance. It's very important to her that she presents with a powerful, not overly sexualized image.

2. The music. She takes the technical skills very seriously, more so than the message or overall feel of the song.

What's the biggest challenge about taking on this role?

There is a lot of behind the scenes collaboration that goes on to bring a character to life. I think t he biggest challenge for me has been finding a way to incorporate all the different visions for Cannibal Queen while still finding a way to make her my own.

What motivates your character?

She wants to win, but it has to be on the grounds of technical skill and ability. She doesn't want to be seen as "less than" because she's a woman. She wants to be on an equal playing field with the boys and she wants to beat them on their turf.

Without giving anything away, what is your favorite line of dialogue?

I have 2!

1. Announcer: "What does February look like for D-Vicious?
Vicious: "Um, it's Black History Month."

2. What kind of work can you do from the back of a sh*tty bar? But it comes out "bag of shiddy bah" because of my Boston accent.

Besides yourself, which actor is going to blow people away?

Honestly , this whole cast is so incredibly talented! I can't just pick one person- they're all so great! I sincerely mean that!

Come see Trisha, and the rest of the cast in AIRNESS by Chelsea Marcantel and directed by Nathaniel Quinn.
