From Florida Theater On Stage: Last week was terrific for local theater. Here's our latest review: Pompano Players’ Steel Magnolias captures all the heart and humor that made this story a classic. With a strong ensemble, deft direction, and performances that spark both hearty laughter and heartfelt tears, this version feels timeless in its attention to human frailty and the power of friendship to sustain us. From Florida Theater On Stage: Yet another review. Theatre Lab might consider issuing seat belts along with tickets to performances of its season-opening production, The City in the City in the City. The world premiere of Matthew Capodicasa’s kaleidoscopic, fantastical play is a roller coaster ride, skillfully steered by director Matt Stabile, full of twists, turns, blind corners and about-faces. To keep up you’ll have to glue your eyes to the stage for a gripping 100 minutes with no intermission. Thirty roles shared by Niki Fridh and Vaishnavi Sharma Read the review at floridatheateronstage.com. Also read about The Mother at Zoetic Stage.

From Florida Theater On Stage: The first review in a full weekend. Zoetic Stage’s season has opened with a tantalizing, psychological, playful dark comedy that has the audience second-guessing, laughing, and gasping in surprise. The Mother is described by the playwright as a black farce. Starring Jeni Hacker and Steve Anthony, directed by Stuart Meltzer. Read at floridatheateronstage.com

Another review from Florida Theatre On Stage: The direction is brilliant in Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s recreation of Stephen King’s classic Misery, but what ultimately catapults this stage version to a breathtaking production is the remarkable cohesion of its design team. Set design, lighting, sound, video, and special effects work in concert to create suspense. It’s clear that this was a deeply collaborative effort. The result is an intimate sensory experience that reminds us it isn’t just Paul Sheldon who is trapped, we are too. Read at floridatheateronstage.com

Florida Theater Folks: Does anybody know anything about the present status, let alone specifics about this:

"One large unanswered question was a late summer announcement that the state Division of Arts and Culture is pausing its grant process “updating its grant application to better align with our mission and objectives.”

Its statement added, “Beginning immediately, the Division will revise the guidelines, application, and scoring rubric. Once completed, we will provide additional information, new panel dates and instructions for updating grant applications. We fully anticipate having the process finalized before the 2026 Legislative Session that begins in January.”"

Yes, another review from Florida Theater On Stage: Death, race and dreams intersect in Palm Beach Dramaworks' stirring, powerful The Mountaintop. And the theater season barrels into another week of show after show as documented at Florida Theater On Stage. Today, a review of Broward Center for the Performing Arts's Life of Pi. There are moments in the drama during which, no matter where you are sitting or, the realistically-looking, ferocious-sounding, life-sized Royal Bengal tiger may prompt audience members to grab their arm rests or companions or gasp in this play about a teenager and a tiger adrift in the ocean. But it’s in those moments when superb stagecraft and superior production values take over, enveloping the audience. More reviews coming including Riverside Theatre's Little Shop of Horrors and . And the theater season barrels into another week of show after show as documented at Florida Theater On Stage. Today, a review of Thinking Cap Theatre's Lizzie, a gothic rock musical based on the infamous 1892 double homicide in a small New England town. This edgy production reimagines the story of Lizzie Borden. Lizzie dares to explore what might have driven one of history’s most notorious women to allegedly pick up an axe and make the headlines. Told through dreamlike projections, sensual choreography, and a blistering punk-rock score, the show immerses us in the pressure cooker of secrets, repression, and rage that leads to bloodshed—and Lizzie’s haunting acquittal..
