Mallory Rice, a brain cancer survivor, was the very first recipient of the Barbara’s Friends Scholarship and now she is also the first graduate supported through the scholarship program. This scholarship allowed Mallory to attend and graduate with a degree in professional aesthetics from Florida Academy free of financial restraints.

Her cancer journey started at just 8-years-old when she was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma, a rare type of brain cancer. Following a procedure to remove the tumor in her brain, Mallory started a trial program of radiation five days a week for eight weeks. With help from the dedicated staff at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, she made a full recovery.

Barbara’s Friends Scholarships are designed to allow childhood cancer survivors, like Mallory, and children battling cancer and other blood disorders to pursue their academic goals without financial burden. Each year, Barbara’s Friends plans to award three full college scholarships to survivors who received treatment at Golisano Children’s Hospital.

You can help fund treatments or future scholarships for children, like Mallory, with your support of ! 🎗️
