🍽️ This week’s food safety tip: Food Safe Temperatures🍽️

We're diving deeper into healthyeating

✅ Don’t leave cooked food at room temperature – it’s a breeding ground for bacteria.
✅ Store cold dishes and perishable items like meat, milk, and eggs in the fridge at 39°F or below.
✅ Keep hot foods in heating containers to maintain a temperature above 140°F until serving.

Our shop cook and eat class takes us to so many places and last month it took us to Redemption House Ministries where we spent an evening with the ladies living there and walked them through our tips on grocery shopping, meal prepping and feeding their families in a better way.

The highlight of the night was getting to see their reactions to the 3 meals we prepared! We look forward to going back again and seeing how these ladies have taken the things we taught them and put them into practice!

We are honored to be a part of the nourishing, feeding, and transforming of the lives of these ladies.

🔥 Cooking Thoroughly: A Must for Kitchen Safety! 🔥

Here's a refresher on cooking safely in the kitchen!

1️⃣ Cook these foods thoroughly: Meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood.
2️⃣ Reheat leftovers to 165°F before eating, and toss any unheated leftovers.
3️⃣ Eat cooked food within 2 hours to avoid bacterial growth.

💡 Bonus Tip: Invest in a kitchen thermometer to ensure your food is cooked safely every time!

🚨 Raw Food vs. Ready-to-Eat: Kitchen Safety Tips 🚨

When handling raw food and ready-to-eat meals, keep these safety tips in mind:

1️⃣ Store Smart: Keep ready-to-eat food in upper compartments of your fridge to avoid contamination from raw food drippings.
2️⃣ Use separate knives: Have dedicated knives for raw foods (like meat) and ready-to-eat items (like snacking veggies). Or wash thoroughly if you only have a few knives.
3️⃣ Seal it up: Always cover or properly seal food to prevent bacteria growth that could make you sick.

These tips are simple and easy, but will keep your friends and family safe and able to enjoy the food you prepare together 🥗🍗

Hello OOAJ friends and fam! We are seeking food outlet opportunities to help facilitate our Feeding Fort Wayne program.

What scratch and dent food stores are in and around the Fort Wayne area?

Does anyone have connections to food resources ( grocery store connections, restaurants, etc) that you see or know about perfectly good food going to the waste?

Any ideas for food rescue, we are interested in and will followup on and investigate.

We love our hungry Fort Wayne families and are always looking for ways to keep them fed.

Thank you in advance for any help and input. It truly takes a village sometimes to keep these blessings flowing!

🚨 Kitchen Safety Tips: Keep Clean, Water & Raw Materials 🚨

Let's talk about kitchen safety when it comes to water and raw ingredients! 🌊🍖🥦

✅ Wash, wash, wash, your hands! Before you start, anytime you touch your face!
✅ Cover up any cuts or wounds with waterproof protection.
✅ Make sure all surfaces you will be using are clean as well.
✅ Buy raw meat from trusted stores with a good track record.
✅ Choose fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible—they're packed with nutrients and great for your family!
✅ Wash raw produce thoroughly with safe, drinkable water to remove any dirt or bacteria.

Keeping your ingredients fresh and clean is key to safe and healthy meals! 🍽️💧

🍂 This fall, we had the incredible opportunity to team up with Feeding Fort Wayne Kids and visit the students at Gateway Woods

🎓 We taught our Level One cooking class, and while it felt like starting any other class, it was also a unique experience with a new group of young people eager to learn.

Cooking might seem like a basic skill, but we believe it’s a gateway to new opportunities—whether it’s opening doors to jobs or enriching their future communities with delicious meals. As we connect with these teenagers, we’re inspired by their stories and excited to offer encouragement and hope.

Here’s to transforming futures, one cooking lesson at a time! 🌟

Thank you for Praying, Reading Our Stories and Giving!!

Erik and two of his kids served at a recent Feeding Fort Wayne Volunteer night! We asked him about this time and this is what he shared,

"This was our first time volunteering at Out of a Jam. Myself, Ezra and Levi were welcomed right away by Paula and Bernie with aprons and a tour of the walk-in freezer. Then we dug right into making, stirring, and storing food, and adding labels and packaging it all up. The boys had a blast and we've already signed up for next month. I especially loved how family-friendly the time was, and how Bernie and Chef Jamee took extra care to include the kids in all that we did. Thank you to Out of a Jam for allowing us to partner and participate in your mission!"

We would love to have you and your kids at our next Feeding Fort Wayne Night! SEPTEMBER 24TH

At Out of a Jam, we love teaching kids and sharing good food. This week was no exception! In our second class with Gateway Woods, the students made omelets and muffins. And they got to have them their way. Like the "one of a kind" omelets, we are all unique in God's Kingdom, and He calls us Chosen, Forgiven, and Precious. We'd love to share food and God's love with your youth group. You can just visit our website and drop us a line. www.outofajamfw.org

Shop, Cook, & Eat class at Redemption House was in full swing last week. Paula taught the hungry ladies how to plan, prep, and prepare healthy meals for themselves and their families. The class lasted less than 2 hours, and Paula made 3 meals and an easy dessert that everyone ate joyfully. If you have a group of women who want to learn time and money-saving ways to eat better, visit our website, www.outofajamfw.org and send us a note.

This month were highlighting what you can do when you get home from the grocery story with all your expertly chosen ingredients!

First up is Cutting your fresh produce immediately when you get home! Do this with both your snacks and meal prep ingredients!

Bonus: If you aren’t able to do that, you can organize your ingredients by meal in your fridge till you have the chance to chop up the produce.
