Join us at The Garden on Thursday, January 30 from 6-8pm for a free public opening reception of the “Really Bad Art” show—an exhibition that celebrates the humor, honesty, and vulnerability in artistic missteps! This event invites audiences of all ages to experience the beauty of imperfection through pieces that didn’t go as planned, whether they’re happy accidents, creative detours, or outright disasters.

Opening night will feature interactive moments with the artists, who will share the stories behind their “bad art.” An emcee will lead a lively Q&A with the audience, creating a fun and engaging dialogue about the artwork on display.

This is not about perfection—it’s about embracing the unrefined, the awkward, and the unexpected. Come celebrate the joy of experimentation, failure, and growth in the creative process. We can’t wait to share this unique experience with you!

Join us Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 6-8pm at The Garden Fort Wayne for “Chiaroscuro”. “Chiaroscuro: The Art of Light and Shadow” is an immersive art exhibition that celebrates the dramatic interplay of light and shadow. Drawing from the classic technique that has captivated artists for centuries, this show explores the tension, depth, and emotion created by contrast.

Featuring works in painting, photography, sculpture, and digital media, the exhibition showcases how artists use chiaroscuro to evoke mystery, amplify drama, and reveal the hidden layers of their subjects. Each piece is a dance between illumination and darkness, offering glimpses of clarity in obscurity and inviting viewers to contemplate what lies in the shadows.

“Chiaroscuro” is a journey through extremes—light and dark, seen and unseen, known and unknown—inviting you to lose yourself in the exquisite balance of contrast. Step into the light, and let the shadows tell their story.

ART CALL for “Lost: An Exploration of Absence and Discovery”

“Lost” is an evocative art exhibition that delves into themes of disconnection, longing, and the search for meaning in the spaces where something—or someone—is missing. Featuring works from a diverse range of artists, this show invites viewers to reflect on the many dimensions of loss: the physical, the emotional, and the existential.
Through a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, “Lost” examines what it means to lose and to be lost. Some pieces mourn what has slipped away, while others celebrate the serendipitous discoveries found in the act of searching.
This exhibition is both a map and a labyrinth, guiding visitors through stories of absence, resilience, and the unexpected beauty that can emerge in the spaces between. Come explore what it means to be “Lost.” You might just find something profound.

The Garden

The Garden is an open-concept, creative space and rentable venue, dedicated to creating community and launching local creatives. The space’s tagline “a place to grow” is exactly what they are after. The venue is an indoor-outdoor re-imagining of an old bank building, next to Lassus/Wendy’s on the east side of the street.

The space is part co-creating space, part art gallery/venue, part community incubator. Efforts of the husband-wife creative leadership team (Chad & Lesa Van Meter) are focused on connecting local students, artists, and innovators into community and ultimately into creating a thriving cultural life in the 05.

The couple has lived in the 05 neighborhood for almost 20 years and know well the strengths and needs of the North Anthony Corridor. They are excited to be part of a long history of creative businesses along the Corridor, where local boutique shops have thrived for decades. “We believe this area has great potential to be a critical part of Fort Wayne’s overall urban improvement,” said Chad.

The Garden hopes to bolster particularly the east side of the Corridor. “We have a lot of thriving businesses on the west side of North Anthony, we hope we can facilitate some growth and energy on this side.” Being just 5 minutes from downtown and home to three of our universities, the Corridor really could earn the name "the Gateway to Downtown.” “It feels like the closest thing Fort Wayne has to a Campus Village. We are so proud of this area and hope to encourage many others to recognize this incredible neighborhood.”
