At our block party on June 29th, our Founder and President Dick Stoner was awarded the “Sagamore of the Wabash” by Representative Bob Morris. The Sagamore is awarded by the Governor of Indiana, and is the highest award a citizen of Indiana can receive! Congratulations, Dick!

The Musical Theatre goodness continues! We are so excited to have a group of performers representing the Fort Wayne Youtheatre at the Albert Stoner Day Block Party! The Youtheatre is a valuable part of our community, and we are so excited they will be helping us to celebrate our 75th Anniversary this Saturday. Catch them on stage at 1pm!

Let’s introduce you to our final performer for our SOLD OUT Seventy-Five Years of Magic Show… Rusty Ammerman!

Over a quarter-century and thousands of performances, Rusty Ammerman has developed his “Dimension of Illusion,” creating a personal mix of mystery and maniacal mayhem that has delighted audiences in 43 states and nine countries, including two overseas military tours.

“I remember the first time I did a trick and people went huh?” Rusty says. “It was like a drug. I was hooked.”

At age 16 he spent a summer vacation working at one of those old-time Wild West amusement parks, doing everything from staging gun fights and stunts to playing comic characters in the can-can show.

Rusty currently hones his legerdemain at dinner theaters, amusement parks, casinos, universities, fairs, schools, libraries, and trade shows. He is also a regularly featured performer at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, California, as well as owner-operator of Rusty’s Ice Cream in Fort Wayne.

Let’s welcome our next performer for our 75 Years of Magic Show, Andy Haines!

Andy’s foray into magic began unremarkably, when, as a teenager looking for some extra cash, he landed a job at Stoner’s Funstore. Dick Stoner took Andy under his wing, teaching him the tricks he would need to demonstrate for customers. Dick recognized his knack for magic, and within two years he began working as a magician professionally.

Andy has worked a variety of events, everything from fairs to festivals, television, even appearing on stage at The Embassy Theatre. Andy has performed for many years as a magician in the trade show industry, as well as the restaurant industry, making miracles happen at the dinner table in restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Texas Roadhouse, and more. His talent has allowed him to work with stars such as Gallagher, Gregory Hines, and Jimmie “JJ” Walker. He is currently a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians A.H. Stoner Ring #221.

Andy has been happily married to Dick’s daughter Georgia for 26 years, and is the proud father of Colin, Reese, and Gavin.

Jim Barron credits Dick Stoner as a huge influence on his decision to become a magician. Barron says, “As a kid, I watched Dick perform every Saturday morning on WANE TV!

Today, Jim Barron performs for corporate events, festivals, churches and even schools. Unusual and notable performances include escaping from a regulation straight jacket before nine thousand people at a football game. He also successfully predicted the final score of a Ft. Wayne baseball game before a record sold out crowd.

Jim Barron is also a veteran radio personality and recently celebrated 20 years on the highly rated WBCL Morning show in Ft Wayne where he can be heard each weekday morning from 6 to 10 AM.

We are very proud to introduce our next performer for our Seventy-Five Years of Magic Tribute Show. Say hello to our friend, Del Proctor!

A Magic Set for Christmas began Del’s interest in Magic. This gift resulted in frequent trips to Stoner’s starting at the age of 10 in 1950. He performed in a variety of opportunities such as church groups, birthday parties and school variety shows as he developed his talent while a student at Fort Wayne North Side High School. He joined the Fort Wayne Magicians Club in 1956.

During his time at Indiana University he performed as a magician and actor on the IU Majestic Showboat on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and in various theatre productions. Upon graduation he began his career as a Theatre Arts Instructor at Central and Northrop High Schools before retiring in 2002. During the summer he and his wife taught Junior Theatre at the Interlochen Arts Camp.

He is currently a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians A.H. Stoner Ring 221. He and his wife Ruth are the very proud parents of daughter Sarah and son Addison and three terrific grandchildren.

We are just over a month away from our 75th Anniversary Celebrations! Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing the talented performers you will be able to see at our 75 Years of Magic Show on June 28th. Let’s kick it off with our Master of Ceremonies, Bill Reader!

Bill Reader has been working in magic and comedy for nearly forty years, since he was first bitten by the “bug” after watching his uncle perform. He eventually took a job at Stoner’s Funstore and trained under the Magic Master Dick Stoner. He also was a regular host performer at the Snickerz Comedy Bar.

His talent has taken him to stages everywhere from Comedy Clubs to Cruise Ships, where he worked with names such as Billy Gardell, David Carradine, and Steve Harvey, to name a few. You can still find Bill every weekend demonstrating magic behind the counter at Stoner’s Funstore, and we are thrilled to have him as our Master of Ceremonies for this special evening!
