Good afternoon all! Just wanted to post a quick update to our page. We are currently only open by appointment only. Because Historic Properties shares office space in the upstairs portion of the Mansion, we want to keep everyone protected. The doors there will remain locked throughout the week unless you have something scheduled. With that being said, we ARE open for events of 50 or less. Good morning everyone! As of right now, Berry Hill is still closed to the public. We are following CDC Guidelines and Executive Order as a map of when we can open safely. Fun fact about Berry Hill:
Pawl Sawyier, born in Ohio but raised as one of Frankfort Kentucky’s own, was commissioned by the Berry’s to do paintings of and around Berry Hill Mansion. Eleven paintings in total were done of the Mansion and it’s grounds. The Commonwealth of Kentucky, with the Division of Historic Properties, has been able to attain two Paul Sawyier Original paintings of the mansion. One is a watercolor of the back entrance of Berry Hill gifted to Historic Properties in 2019. The other is a watercolor of what is considered the back of the estate; attained by Historic Properties in 2005.

Fun fact about Berry Hill:
Many of us here in Frankfort go to Juniper Hill Park. Originally, Mr. Berry named his estate Juniper Hill because of his love for nature and his conservationist efforts. Most of all, he named it Juniper Hill because of the many Juniperious Virginia’s on the property that spanned almost 200 acres. Mr. Berry incorporated his love of the Juniper tree in the addition of the Music Room. The Juniper can be seen in the stained glass windows in the music room and leading down to the music room. It can also be seen in the hand painted light fixtures that are around the Music Room. Lastly, it can be seen on his family seal when you first open his guest book.
When the city attained Berry Hill in the late 1950’s, they used much of the 200 acres to make Juniper Hill Park; named such in honor of what Mr. Berry originally named the property. The state took ownership of the Mansion and the carriage house plus 40 acres from the city also in the late 1950’s. They renamed the estate Berry Hill Mansion to honor Mr. and Mrs. Berry.

Good morning all! As of now, until we can assure everyone’s safety, Berry Hill is closed to the public. We absolutely LOVE when guests come by to tour and learn the amazing history that lies within these walls. However, we have to be good patriots. We have to look out for one another and keep each other safe. In the meantime, I’ll give some history on the Mansion each day accompanied by some awesome pictures!
