I have to say, videographers who brand their business with the word “film” really irk me. I know this is such an early aughts complaint but seriously.

For me, the word “film” is a badge that I earn every time I pull negatives out of the rinse, hold them up to the light & touch physical images.

What videographers are doing has as much to do with “film” as digital photographers. There’s nothing wrong with shooting one medium or the other, but misappropriating basic vocabulary is insulting & misrepresentative of what both of us do.

Why not be proud of what you do & call it what it is?

Every few months I get a variant of this ridiculous scam email. Sometimes they even contain a local address. Or the date of the event will depend on my availability!

If you respond with a payment method, the birthday will be canceled before the fake payment peocesses and they’ll need the money back immediately. Or, they’ll accidentally send too much fake money to you and will offer a generous tip for refunding them the difference.

Of course, the idea is that they take real money from your account in exchange for money that doesn’t exist. It’s called a refund scam. And the imagination of the perpetrators is highly entertaining!

Do you run battery back-up’s on your computers?

Not only do they allow me to keep editing photos (or more importantly, transferring files) during a power outtage, they reduce the possibility of my hardware getting fried by a less than graceful shutdown.

After a good five years, I’m replacing the battery in one of my APC units.

Last year, when discussing content for my podcast appearences, hosts said “No offense, but I’ve never heard of this Nikki Glaser, what else would you like to talk about?”

And I spent countless hours pitching my Nikki Glaser story & photos to every magazine & website that would listen, but the most polite responses were the copy-and-pasted classic “Thanks for your submission but it isn’t quite the right fit for us at this time.”

Guys, if you still aren’t interested in my content after last night’s MOST ENTERTAINING EPISODE OF THE GOLDEN GLOBES IN HISTORY, you simply don’t have a heartbeat! 😅
