The headliner for the Fredonia Jazz Festival is the incredible Anat Cohen!

Saturday, September 21, 7:00PM, Fredonia Opera House.

The New Yorker calls Anat Cohen "a present day multicultural wonder. She's an enthralling clarinetist and a persuasive saxophonist, displaying a pan-historical, pan-cultural approach to jazz." Anat Cohen has been a force on the New York City jazz scene for over two decades. Her talents keep growing as she absorbs swing, samba, Middle Eastern and classical influences into her organic and inviting concept. Her playing evokes "infectious joy," says the New York Times, adding that she is "an improviser with gusto." With a sense of unbridled freedom, Cohen has a musical conversation with her collaborators that is full of humor, beauty, and surprise. With Gadi Lehavi, piano, Tal Mashiach, bass, and Ofri Nehemya, drums.

This Saturday, September 14 at 1PM - Our ARTS IN THE AFTERNOON series kicks off with MY NATIONAL GALLERY, LONDON!

The National Gallery of London is one of the world’s greatest art galleries. It is full of masterpieces, an endless resource of history, an endless source of stories. But whose stories are told? Which art has the most impact and on whom? The power of great art lies in its ability to communicate with anyone, no matter their art historical knowledge, their background, their beliefs.

This cinematic production gives voice to those who work at the gallery – from cleaner to curator, security guard to director – who identify the one artwork that means the most to them and why. An assortment of people from all walks of life who have a strong connection to the gallery make surprising choices of both well-known and lesser-known artworks. Finally, some well-known celebrities explain what they head for when they visit the gallery.

These stories are used as a lens through which to explore the 200-year history of the National Gallery and what the future may hold for this spectacular space.

Tickets - $15 Adults, $10 Students. Call the Box Office at 716.679.1891 or visit fredopera.org for more info.

69 years ago at the Opera House, DADDY LONG LEGS returned to the screen, it's previous showing making it "the most popular picture that ever played Fredonia."

The movie was actually the fourth film based on Fredonia native Jean Webster's book of the same name published in 1912. It had also been a stage play in 1914, before becoming a 1919 film starring Mary Pickford, which was remade in 1931 starring Janet Gaynor, then made again as a Shirley Temple vehicle (retitled 'Curly Top') in 1935. It was turned into a stage musical in Britain in 1952 called 'Love From Judy,' before it's most well-known turn as the Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron movie in 1955.

In more recent years, it was made into several anime films and series, as well as Korean and Hindi films. It even returned to the stage as both a play and a new musical (and the first Instagram musical).
