Hi everyone and Welcome to Monday Funday - It was 236 years ago that the Patterson Family settled on our Farm in Monmouth County, Howell did not even exist yet as a town.
There was a Wonderful Young Lady , Valerie, that had a Bridal Shower for her daughter this weekend, and while she followed the Patterson Family Barn page, she was unaware of all the History. I thought that for all of you planning events, I’d give you a little information, not as in-depth , but just so you understand the Historical aspects of the Farm something we take Great pride in. It all started in 1790, John Patterson was living in Blue Ball, known today as Adelphia, just about a mile West of the Farm. After purchasing the Farm, he built the 1st structure on the Farm, known as the Wagon House. Here he could store his wagon, there was a small corn crib on the East side, room for early tools. And there was a nice sized loft upstairs, in the very early days he could spend nights there if it was too late or unfit to travel back by horse and wagon to Adelphia.
The pictures, with the Wagon House in the background were taken in the early ‘70’s. The building had pegged beams, as all structures did at that time.
Unfortunately, in the early 2000’s, the town made us take the building down. However, the original cement floor still remains, a reminder of what once stood there.
