Today was FANTASTIC!!! Every year Ujamaa is designed for a specific Nia. Tomorrow we engage Purpose when KMOSS Presents Nia at The Inspiration Center (formerly Meljo’s) in Brunswick County!

Nia (Purpose) - “to make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.”

In accordance with the vision for community empowerment in Southside Virginia, with sponsorship and support from 725 Arts and Culture, B.O.E. Audio, and DJ Future, KMOSS Presents the Nia Kwanzaa Festival at The Inspiration Center (formerly Meljo’s) on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

We are grateful to share in the rich history of Freeman Community Empowerment Day! For those who don't know, The Inspiration Center (formerly Meljo's) is located 10 miles West of Emporia on Route 58 in Freeman, a small town in Brunswick County, Virginia.

The Inspiration Center originally opened on Christmas Eve 1977 as Meljo's Disco, which would eventually host epic Saturday night dance parties, family reunions, teen discos, holiday events, wedding receptions, and more - for 36 years! ...all seasoned with some of the best fried chicken!

For the past decade, we have progressed through a transition as notable as our former years. Freeman Community Empowerment Day has been a staple as we re-imagine and further define our beloved space as a gathering place for our community. We give thanks.

✨⭐Celebrate Juneteenth down by the river at beautiful City Park in Hopewell, Virginia at this FREE event with fun for the entire family - featuring live music performances, cultural celebrations, youth activities, and interactive history lessons! Meet and greet US Olympian, professional rugby player Naya Tapper. Ms. Tapper will lead youth recreational activities, share her experiences as an African-American woman and rugby player, and encourage African-American youth to explore opportunities in diverse sports.

LIVE Musical Performances & Cultural Celebrations
🪘🎵Enjoy the beauty and inspiration of entertainment and education, an experience hosted by the legend himself, DJ Dr. Smooth with LIVE music performances by Mojo Parker, Chiquita Cross, and LoveJoi. Cultural rituals and celebrations will be led by Capiku Cultural Center, Free Bangura of Untold RVA, and include Afro-Caribbean dancing with Kevin LaMarr Jones and CLAVES UNIDOS. Birthed in Downtown Hopewell, the First Friday Freedom Open Mic Team returns with spoken word performances by local poets and writers, along with interactive history lessons.
