Julia Morgan (1872-1957) was a trailblazing architect who designed over 700 buildings in California and Hawaii. She was the first woman to: ⬇️

✅ Graduate with a civil engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1894

✅ Pass the entrance exam for the architecture program at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris

✅ Become a licensed architect in California
- Receive the American Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal

She also: ⬇️

✅ was an influential member of the Arts and Crafts movement in the Bay Area. �
✅ designed many buildings for women’s colleges and organizations. �
✅ supervised the construction of Hearst Castle for 28 years. �
✅ designed the indoor pool at the Berkeley City Club, which is probably her most photographed design. �
✅ was awarded the American Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal in 2014, the first woman to receive the medal. �
Julia Morgan was born on January 20th, 1872. If she were alive today, she would be 153 years old. Today, we celebrate her and all that she accomplished in her lifetime.

Happy New Year from the Julia Morgan Redwood Grove! A new year calls for new adventures, don’t you think? To all of our Julia Morgan fans and adventure seekers, we highly recommend visiting The Hearthstone, an enchanting four-sided fireplace designed by Julia Morgan herself.

Start 2025 off right and book a weekend trip to our private country estate! We are less than a 10 minute drive from the Southern entrance to the world famous Avenue of the Giants. The four-sided fireplace is just a short trek off the beaten path in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Trust us, this is worth the adventure and a must see!

Take the scenic route and enjoy the scenery in our neck of the woods. 🌲
