Our Annual Giving Gala is coming up next month. This is our yearly fundraiser to raise monies to support our Community Support Fund which provides low cost or free doula support to Long Island's most at risk birthing people. Please consider joining in on a fun night by attending, placing a AD, becoming a sponsor or donating a basket.

LIDA's Giving Gala is honoring the Founder of The Women's Diversity Network, Shanequa Levin. All proceeds of the gala will be going towards LIDA's Community Support Fund, a fund that provides financial assistance for birthing families to receive care for women in the early stages of parenthood

Have you had the opportunity to have doula support during your birthing or postpartum period? Did it significantly impact you and your time transitioning into parenthood?

If so, now is the time to share that opportunity with others. The Long Island Doula Association, Inc (LIDA) is hosting their Giving Gala this November. Our Giving Gala raises funds for our Community Support Fund (CSF). The CSF fund provides birth, postpartum and lactation support to high risk population birthing people on Long Island.

It was an amazing night and we are still only half way to our fundraising goal to provide birth and postpartum doula services to underserved birthing families on Long Island. Happy 5 years of supporting birthing people on Long Island through a pandemic, opening three locations/four buildings, raising your own children and constantly creating more ways to meet the needs of families. Laura and Jackie the two of you have created a beautiful community of support, education, resources and love. Thank you for letting me be a small sliver of the amazing work The Nesting Place does. And I’m sorry to my FTSC not pictured. I could only find so many pictures. Love you though!

Such an amazing evening collaborating with so many practitioners on Long Island last night at The State of Women’s Health on Long Island event. It was an honor to share about Long Island Doula Association.

On this first day of World Doula Week, I took a moment to reflect on my time as a doula. I am forever grateful and humbled that I have the honor to have this calling. I have the privilege of stepping into the most sacred space of people’s lives and help hold them. Thank you to all the families that have invited me into their lives. Thank you to all my birthing world colleagues there’s no way I could do this without you. And thank you to my family and friends that understand when I dip out of life for a birth, drive my children places and hold space for me when I’m delirious in exhaustion but still trying to do life. Just filled with gratitude this morning.

Thank you Wagon Wheel Design for helping make our LIDA Giving Gala beautiful. You embraced the strength, beauty and tenderness that doulas give to clients.

Feeling unsure of giving birth is a normal response. However, you don’t have to stay in that state. Digging into education to normalize birth and surrounding yourself with a birth team you can lean into and trust can equip you to have an empowered birth no matter how you end up birthing your baby.

I’m so thankful for birth providers that truly believe in the support of doulas.
